I, too, use Process Explorer instead of task manager! Far more versatile!

-- Don't see anything major there. I always wonder about Daemon Tools. They (if memory serves) use rootkit-type technology to get around copy protection. (some of their drivers show in your autoruns log) You might want to try uninstalling that and see if the issues continue. Kinda a "trial and error" approach . . .
-- What about automatic updates? Are you set up to automatically download updates - IE7, for instance? Just a thought...
(aaaghh - I forgot you already have IE7 installed . . . ) - - - - Could that be part of the problem?? I installed IE7 and it borked my desktop, of all things, so I uninstalled it.
Did slow startup coincide with IE7 install?
