Ahh. Ok
It's certainly not the user profile, I just tried it, but it didn't take care of it...I'll try your suggestion next Judy.

Good news and bad news. I did figure out how to easily duplicate the issue. Open a folder on my desktop that i have files in, Right-click, hit Rename, don't change anything, hit enter...right-click again and it will crash.
Disabling ALL startup items didn't change the issue at all.
****edit****
I lied...i just tried to duplicate it again...and it wouldn't do it...See, it's random...I don't get it....BUT after I went to close the window, Explorer.exe crashed. (And no, it doesn't matter WHAT folder the file is in).

Michael at this point...I have no idea. Google this and there are literally hundreds of threads listed, and nobody knows why this happens. Aren't you glad you asked me.
I don't either...that's why I'm here asking. 2+ heads are better than one...I just truly honestly don't understand it. I think it's windows, because it started happening after a clean install...I just don't know...I can't believe that nobody has an answer yet...

I did read a post somewhere regarding context menu issues and "my documents" and user files that were moved around etc.. I'll try to find the link and post it here so you can check if there's anything in there that you can try.
sorry it took so long to get back to this; I've been busy trying to setup an RMA for one of my drives and had trouble getting windows xp SP2 to print out my forms.. something to do with "data execution prevention" and the printer driver.. 3 hours+ of help session with HP over it and finally had to install a generic printer driver that was included with windows sp2 in order to allow printing..
Here's the link to the trouble topic regarding explorer crashing somewhat related to the mydocuments folder, there are a few "suggestions" in there for trying to fix the issue, but the original poster couldn't nail down which of the suggestions did the trick. http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt...error-ive.html
I went through that...nothing seems to help![]()

Edit; I would normally suggest to avoid SP3 and go with SP2 and individual critical updates to suite your needs; however, Some people recommend installing IE7 when using SP3, even if you are using FF or something else.
