Go with the programs in PP's sticky. They are FREE. Not that those you note are not good programs, they are but Winpatrol is a paid program.

Advance Window Care is a program I am not familiar with so I cannot advise, except to say, I don't know.

Stick with what PP advises and I PROMISE you, You Cannot Go wrong. Those are the ones you need.

SpywareBlaster is a super program, I recommend it highly, as does PP, but that is a prevention program. So you do need some other cleaner programs. Go with those he recommends.

CCleaner is good for cleaning up temps and stuff, as long as you use Only the Default options. Don't change the settings at all.

I also use Firefox 2 as my default browser. Love it!

Thanks again for your advise, really helps

After the AVG-antispy expires, should it be removed from the startup tray?

PP says do not use Spybot's "tea-timer", okay to ask why? mine is on, how to turn it off.

    Thanks again.

Take the AVG anti-spy out of there right now but keep the program and keep it updated. It DOES NOT need to run in the background, same goes with the Spybot Teatimer.
Tools that are excellent for scanning for malware do not necessarily serve as well the separate function of protection. The immunize, ad-blocking, and similar protective features of these programs mostly aren’t needed, don’t do much that is really helpful, and sometimes unnecessarily get in the way of how you use your computer. (If you are running Windows XP Service Pack 2, they really are unnecessary.) There are so much easier and less intrusive ways, like SpywareBlaster, to protect your computer, that it is really best to keep the scanner programs just for weekly scanning and the programs made for realtime protection updated, SpywareBlaster, and running...anti-virus, firewall.

To disable Teatimer, rightclick teatimer and select exit Spybot S&D resident. Then, open Spybot,go to mode, select Advanced Mode, then Tools->resident,and then uncheck Resident "Teatimer"(Protection of over-all system settings) active.
