Thread: Time for a tune up.

Judy, I have one more issue if you don't mind. For some reason I am unable to download the latest flash player. Several of my favorite sites use it and even though I go through all the motions of downloading and installing, it still says I do not have the latest version. It's very frustrating. Any ideas?

Have you tried downloading to the desktop, don't install just save it there. Then go into Add/Remove and Uninstall the old version. Then try installing the new one.

If this is Macromedia Flash player there is a possibilty, with recent update to Windows that Macromedia, Inc is listed in the Untrusted Publishers list, then the Macromedia Flash Player cannot be installed on your machine. To view your Untrusted Publishers in Internet Explorer choose Tools > Internet Options. In the IE properties dialog box, switch to the Content tab, then choose Publishers > Untrusted Publishers. If Macromedia, Inc is in this list, remove the line by highlighting it and choosing Remove.
    Then try downloading and installing.

It isn't there. Only a fraudulent Microsoft entry. Any other ideas for me?

    Just found this info on the Adobe site;
In order to install most recent upgrade all previous versions of flash player must be uninstalled first.
Due to recent enhancements to the Adobe Flash Player installers, you can now remove the player only by using the Adobe Flash Player uninstaller. To remove Flash Player, simply download and run the appropriate uninstaller for your system using the steps below.
Download the Adobe Flash Player uninstaller:
    • Windows: uninstall_flash_player.exe (181 KB) (updated 04/08/08)
Note: If you have a Windows Flash Player uninstaller downloaded prior to April 4, 2008 on your desktop, then please delete it and download the latest version.
    • Save the file to your system, choosing a location where you can find it (for example, your desktop). Macintosh users may need to open or unstuff the .hqx file.
    • Quit ALL running applications, including all Internet Explorer or other browser windows, AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, or other Messengers. Check the Windows system tray carefully to make certain no applications are still in memory which might possibly use Flash Player.
    • Run the uninstaller. This will remove Adobe Flash Player from all browsers on the system.

Note: The uninstaller cannot remove files currently in use.
If you have any instances of the player open in your web browsers, instant messaging clients, stand-alone SWFs, or projectors, then the uninstaller will complete but some files may not be deleted. If this occurs, then close all of your applications and run the uninstaller again to ensure that all files are removed.
Note: Internet Explorer users may have to reboot to clear all uninstalled Flash Player ActiveX control files. If you're not certain, select the "Show Details" button in the Flash Player uninstaller. If there are any log lines that begin with "Delete on Reboot..." then you'll need to reboot BEFORE running the Flash Player installer again.
To reinstall the Flash Player ActiveX control

Download the latest version from the Adobe Flash Player Download Center.

Now, looking in your Uninstall list you posted via HJT I see these entries:
    Adobe Flash Player ActiveX
    Adobe Flash Player Plugin
so these should definitely go before trying the download and install again.
