Another considerations is WHAT you do on the computer and how many things you are attempting to do at the same time. You also should check into adding to the RAM. What you have is barely enough needed to run XP, so naturally the computer will be slower than you may wish and no outside program is going to be able to boost the speed beyond it's capabilities. Adding RAM is generally a cheap way to improve a systems performance. And by cheap I do mean cheap, usually well under $100. Plus it can be installed by pretty much anybody in less than 5 minutes. Go to http://www.crucial.com/ and run their free scan to see just what the cost would be. You will be surprised I am sure.

When I got the computer brand new it had 128MB of ram, I installed 256 more. I have been looking for another 256MG stick to max it out at 512MB.

I just run Firefox on its own, Office2003 on its own and sometimes when I run Firefox. I run two or three graphics programs, usually back to back and not at the same time.

I have been looking for more RAM like I said, but I live in a small town and the stores here refuse to order older hardware. I rarely go out of town cause of the expense and the stores I have talked with out of town also refuse to order older hardware and the one that will will not mail it to me even if I paid extra for it. Also, they will not keep it for me to pick up unless it is the day after they get it. Otherwise they send it back, get a refund and keep it. I have dealt with them once before, I ordered a new motherboard, they got it, on a Saturday, they were Closed Sunday, and they returned it on Monday, and then kept me money and called it a restocking fee, and a return mail fee.

I believe you are in the US, that Crucial site will mail you the RAM in a matter of days. You don't have to go to a store to get it. I have ordered from them multiple times and it always arrives within a week.
Do the scan there, and it will tell you exactly what you need or can use and how much and how long it will take to get to you by mail.
