    PLEASE HELP!!!! Computer infected!!! Cannot remove!

    You are my last hope. My computer is infected with TROJ_Generic.ADV. I am using my companies required antivirus Trend Micro. I have tried using TM's fix tool with no luck as well as other virus removal tools. Thanks in advance for any and all help you can provide to help me with this issue.

    Hi Mat,

    Have you already gone through the steps outlined in this sticky?

    If not, please do so and then post your logs again, ok?

    Judy Van Konobi should be around to help you soon.

    I agree with ~TL you should have gone throught the steps in the sticky first...but how do you know you are infected with this supposed trojan? I can find no info on it.
    You are running at least one rogue program called MaxSpyware Detector which is known for false positives in order to encourage you to purchase various rogue programs. It is known for it's poor scan reporting.
    This should definitely be removed via Add/Remove and go into C:\Program Files\ and look for MaxPC Secure and remove all traces.

    You also say you are using your companies required Trend Micro, which is a fine program, BUT there are also traces of Nod32 running on the computer which is another anti-virus program. This is an absolute No-No. Two anti-virus programs on one computer can result in LESS protection rather than more. If you say your company requires the Trend Micro the UNINSTALL the Nod32 anti-virus via Add/Remove. You should also look for listings there under Eset, and also Sana Security. These are not bad programs but too many programs.
    Uninstall all of these, especially the MaxPC Secure as we know for certain this is a rogue program that shouldn't be on any computer.
    Follow the steps in the link that ~TL noted and then post back here with all the logs requested in that link.
    Judy
    P.S. When you post the HJT log just use copy/paste. Please don't run it through the analyzer.

    HJT logs HELP!!!

    Thanks everyone! After completeing everything in the notes you suggested, I am still having a problem with TROJ_Generic.ADV according to Trend Mircro. Here is the log I recieved upon finishing all of the steps from AVG Anti-Spyware:
    VG Anti-Spyware - Scan Report
    ---------------------------------------------------------

    + Created at: 3:17:20 AM 3/7/2007

    + Scan result:

    HKU\S-1-5-21-57989841-682003330-2145581543-12151\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ex t\Stats\{702EA91C-1ACF-4772-8078-18F2B2EE1031} -> Adware.Generic : Cleaned with backup (quarantined).

    ::Report end

    When I reopened windows normally Trend Micro still detected the TROJ_Generic.ADV from c:\DOCUME~1\mathews\LOCALS~1\Temp\clclean.0001.dir .000\~df394b.tmp

    I have tried to locate this file with no luck

    I also preformed the HJT as instructed here is the log I recieved once all instructions were completed:

    The cause of that error is the following entry as displayed in your HJT log:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MBMon] Rundll32 CTMBHA.DLL,MBMon
    The file referenced in the above entry was likely to have been deleted during what I am not sure but the none of the steps in the sticky should have caused that as that file appears to be a part of SoundBlaster/Audigy Audio card software.

    Neither a harmful nor a critical startup process. You have two options:
    ~ Either delete the related startup entry (use the freebie StartupControlPanel to disable or delete, not an other method)
    or
    ~ Re-install the software that came with the sound card (preferably the most up-to-date version, check vendor's web site).

    I will not comment on the rest of the HJT log, etc because I do not usually work the Spyware threads, I will let the Dances with Malware handle it unless she can't get to it for some reason then I will chime in again, ok?

    c:\DOCUME~1\mathews\LOCALS~1\Temp\clclean.0001.dir .000\~df394b.tmp
    This is a temp file created in the mathews profile TEMP folder.
    Have found several other similar type posts on other forums, all are pretty much the same except of course the user name is different. All of those seem to point to the SoundBlaster/Audigy Audio card, at least on all the posts I have found. The last two even included the same error message that you received.
    On all the others the problem was solved by disabling the entry that ~TL pointed out using the StartUpControl Panel AND by emptying out ALL of the temp files.

    Just noticed in your latest log that you did not uninstall the MaxSpyware Detector. This really should be removed. It is not a good program to have on your system.
