Certainly, use HiJackThis to generate an Uninstall list.
    Start HijackThis
Click on the Misc Tools button
Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad into a reply

Frankly Dom don't see much there EXCEPT no DVD Player software. That is why you cannot play DVD's, you need to have player software installed in order to be able to play them. Now there IS a listing for the Sonic Encoders, which "might" be what you would need to reinstall, I cannot say for certain. Check the disks that came with the computer. If you used to be able to play DVD's and can't anymore then that is the reason, you don't have the software installed.

I do not have the discs anymore that came with my computer. This is more than 5 years old. Are there alternative solutions?

You need to check with Dell, if that is who manufactured the computer. They very well may have a decoder available for free. Also check with the manufacturer of the DVD drive itself, they often also offer free ones.
Cyberlink has one for XP you can purchase and download for $14.95

Hard drive looks a bit full; 6gb free, maybe free up some hard drive space, to give windows some more breathing room for virtual memory as it can take most all of that space at startup=swapping more files between virtual memory and physical memory.

have a look at this http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...02april15.mspx
