Routine Check Up - Judy/Cauzomb Please?

    Hi Judy!

Hope all is well...P.S. ~ Boo Notre Dame, and go Ferris State!

My computer is running fine, but definitely slower than before. Just by switching through programs and what not, there is lag here and there. I also am looking on improving my Start Up time (StartUp is attached). It used to be about 65 seconds. Now it's about 7 minutes, lol. It seems like I have a lot of programs running in my Task Manager list as well (Processes Attached).

Here are my specs. How are these and where should I be at in life? lol

    Hard Drive:
    47.5GB Used
    6.91 Free

    1.66GHZ at 1.99MB of Ram

Let me know what you think

Dom, your ESET Scan showed infection but not that you cleaned it. You need to run it again and this time have it clean but first run the ATF-Cleaner and clean out all the temp files. Then run ESET again, have it clean if it finds something and please copy/paste the log here, don't attach it.
How long has this slow start up been going on? I can't recall, have you always used Norton av?

Judy, glad to see you are on. I haven't seen you post in a while so I thought you still might be on vacation from the 14th.

I could have sworn you said to not remove the infections. So I didn't. I will rerun the ESET scan now and remove them...AFTER the ATF Scanner again I do not use Norton because Ferris State makes all students run Symantec Endpoint Protection.

Norton is Symantec so yes you do use Norton. I couldn't recall. Think we had this discussion last year about it being the cause of slowness on a computer. Know now that you have no choice.
You have a lot of unnecessary auto starts which certainly will slow the computer as they run all the time whether you are using the programs or not.
Do the ESET scan and removal and then do a new HJT log. Please copy/paste don't attach and I will give you the auto starts that you can stop and easily run manually after that.

    Hey Judy,

Ever since I formatted my computer a few months ago per your direction, I haven't been able to play DVD's since. Whenever I try to, the following error message comes up:

"Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD Encoder is not installed on the computer."

I am pretty sure I recall you saying, "Just got to the Dell website to find it." But I had no luck and never tried again.

    Any thoughts?
