    Sorry, but I read the read me first instructions and I am not that savy to follow those instructions as stated. I will turn my computer over to a repair shop to analylize and make repairs.

    Give us the problems you are having? The steps are not difficult. Just take them one at a time. We will be with you all the way. If in the end you find fixes don't work THEN you can pay a repair shop but most problems CAN be fixed for free if you are willing to take the time to do it.

    Do you know THIS website?

    www.spycarbank.com

    It is showing in your HiJackThis log.

    Your log IS showing some spyware which can be causing you problems. Generally a computer repair shop WILL NOT take care of things like this, they generally work on hardware problems...bad hard drive or failed motherboard or something like that.
    You CAN do this...just One Step At A Time. I promise I will stick with you.

    Here is your first step.
    You have to put the HiJackThis program someplace other than the temporary file where it is now. This program DOES make backups for any fixes done in case they have to be rolled back, but it cannot make a back up in a temporary folder.

    Now do THIS;
    Double Click on My Computer.
    Then double click on the "C" drive.
    Then scroll down until you find the Programs folder.
    Double click that to open it up.
    Now ANYPLACE in there that is b;ank, RIGHT Click.
    select New > Folder & name it HijackThis and Click ENTER
    Now, RightClick your HijackThis ZIP File and select Extract All > Next > and browse to your newly created HijackThis Folder (C:\Program Files\HijackThis)and click Next.
    Now the HiJackThis program will be in it's own folder.
    When you have done this let me know.

    Ok. there has been some changes since I posted the log. I misunderstood the instructions on installing two programs and I thought my install was bogged down. Now everything appears to be working fine except I think there may be some spyware still on my computer. Another forum indicated that an email was sent to me after I registered and I waited 3 minutes and did not receive it. I also removed a security suite and now have separate security for fire wall, virus and antispy. So after all this, do you think I should run a new log file to submit?

    rjordan392,

    Im sure Judy will want you to run another log so that she can make sure that everything is off. As long as you moved the HiJackThis to its own folder as she indicated

    Hi rjordan392,
    Basically I think your log looks pretty good, just a few things that need fixing.
    You didn't answer my question from my first post,
    www.spycarbank.com

    It is showing in your HiJackThis log.
    First of all you need to do a file search on the computer by going to;
    C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Antivirus\ and make sure the Anti-virus files are gone, if it is not then delete THAT file, just the Anti-virus file not the entire Yahoo file.)

    Next run HiJackThis again BUT be absolutely certain that ALL browsers are shut down before you do. Your logs how that your Yahoo Browser was running when the scans were done. You must be certain that they are actually shut down when you run HJT.

    Now run HJT and put checkmarks next to these entries;
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust...search/ie.html
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust...search/ie.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust.../www.yahoo.com

    (While those three above SAY they are yahoo it is not Yahoo, but a click through search engine.
    If it has 'RED', it is minor malware.)

    R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
    O1 - Hosts: 127.0.0.2 www.spycarbank.com
    (this one above is the one I question. I can find no information for it so I believe it should be fixed)
    O2 - BHO: Yahoo! Toolbar Helper - {02478D38-C3F9-4EFB-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
    O3 - Toolbar: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)

    O23 - Service: CAISafe - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Antivirus\ISafe.exe (file missing)
    O23 - Service: VET Message Service (VETMSGNT) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Antivirus\VetMsg.exe (file missing)

    Once you have placed the checkmarks then click the FIX button. Exit HJT.
    Reboot and run a new log and see if those items are gone. If they are then you are clean. If so I would suggest that you set new clean Restore Point by Right Clicking My Computer, Choose Properties, System Restore. Place a checkmark in Turn off System Restore. You will get a message warning you that you are turning it off. Click ok. Let it turn off. Then do the reverse and turn it back on. This way you will know your System Restore is clean also.

    Now a couple suggestions;
    Your YBrowser IS starting when Windows boots up, this is unnecessary and can easily be started manually.
    The same goes for these;
    iTunesHelper
    HP Software Update
    Adobe Reader Speed Launch
    Utility Tray>>>this is a utility tray for your graphics card. Unless you change graphic settings constantly this is really unnecessary also and can be run manually.

    That www.spycarbank.com has to be related to a utility that I found on the net called spycar. I used it to test how well my security was performing. I did not save the application. I got frustrated with it and deleted everything about it, after doing a search.
    I will proceed with your instructions but have a question. If I go into msconfig.exe and in the startup menu, I assume that checking off your suggestions will keep these programs and files from loading automatically. Is that correct?

    Judy,
    All went well except the last file. the scan could not fix 023 - Service: Vet message Service (VETMSGNT) etc etc. I clicked on the info button about this file and got no responce. So I ignored it and shut down. All the other files that were checked got fixed. I proceeded to shut down "System Restore" and then re-stored it.
