How to configure Windows Services in XP
Take a look at the chart on this link. I pretty much agree with it entirely but as the site tells you too, you will have to understand and make the call.
If you have any kind of RAID software/utility running such as Nvidia's RAID management software and/or MS Office Suite installed, do not disable or stop the 'DCOM Server Process Launcher' service if it exists.
If you have some services that are not covered in the list and you are not 100% certain how to modify their startup, do NOT ever disable it, first ask a knowledgeable person for help.
For 3rd party services on your system, setting the startup of such services to manual instead of disabled would be much wiser!
