My HP Pavillion comes with a Recovery Partition. I think that is what I would have to use because I'm pretty sure they didn't give me windows disks. I've got one more place to look for them.... And I don't even know what options the recovery partition is going to give me. And I'm betting it will be harder for me than for someone who is more comfortable with these things.

Advanced System Optimizer - I'll never use something like that again.

What about Revo uninstaller? Is that bad too?

Knock on wood, I'm not having any problems right now, but I do understand what you are saying....

Revo Uninstaller is ok. It is used to Uninstall Programs, period. But one should Uninstall via Add/Remove or the programs own uninstall package before using Revo Uninstaller.

If you can log into your computer in safe mode, open control panel, then "users" then create a new user account/administrator profile.. Then restart the computer in normal mode, you will have to enter the user name and password for this account manually, Once you are logged in with that new administrator account, you can make changes to revert two settings that I recommended, that would effect user logon; one is via services re-enable "fast user switching", and the other in control panel, security center, change the way users log on/ enable use the "welcome screen"

little more information on these suggestions, it is still a diagnostic action, creating a new user account will create a new registry hive for that user account's profile, which might alleviate some of the possibly damaged files from forced power down, or system optimizer... The other suggestions are to possibly restore the simple startup, where you don't have to enter a username/password to log onto the computer... I think this might not be the case if you have multiple user accounts, you still may have to click on a user name icon during the startup process.
