    Screensaver doesn't work

I have a fairly new laptop and have noticed it doing strange things from the beginning. Just a couple of weeks after I got it, the screensaver stopped working altogether. I try messing with the settings, but nothing works. However, when I restarted my computer in Safe Mode, it began working fine, except that I wasn't able to change any of the settings while in Safe Mode, which may be normal, I'm not really sure. I've also been experiencing problems with the touchpad going crazy at times. Additionally, I've noticed that whenever I restart the computer, none of my settings are saved from the last time it was on.

Give us more info on the laptop itself...make, model, memory...etc. Also, have you checked to be certain all drivers are up to date? And have you checked with the computer manufactures website? If it is fairly new, as you say, is it still under warranty?
Exactly what settings do not "hold" when you reboot?

It's an Averatec 7115-EH1 notebook with Mobile AMD Sempron 3000 1.8GHz Processor, 512MB RAM, 80GB hard drive, Windows XP Home Edition. Yes, all drivers are up to date. I've tried receiving help from their customer service without too much success and thought this might be the next best way to solve this problem. The settings that don't hold are mainly things like which items in the system tray I want to automatically be hidden (or the fact that I want icons hidden at all), settings I've customized with the mouse and a few other random things like that in the control panel menu. I have since managed to find some drivers online for other notebooks that have seemed to help control the touchpad and keep it from going crazy on me.
