All of my drivers work and I was able to get my PCProbe to install but there is still an issue loading the CD.
At this point, it seems a fresh install is the only option left but I doubt it is really needed since this glitch/issue could be something applicable only to the PCProbe program, so I say let it go unless you have the same problem with other CDs as well.

Also, have you tried to d/l and install the newest version of PCProbe from Asus's site?

I can't find it on ASUS' site that's why I needed the CD, but I did get it installed by replacing a missing DLL that the setup needed.

Hmm, alright then. Good job kid!
Ubuntu supposed to be a good distro with a few possible installation and configuration issues but I personally prefer and am using Fedora Core.

Well, the CD still has issues, so I haven't completely solved it...and the last time I tried it I didn't have issues either....which is where I am lost....maybe it is just time to start with a clean installation...using my files and settings wizard in Winderz to save some of my stuff *sigh* not really something I want to do...

I wish you would have created images of your disk so recovering from a mess like that would be a snap.

I am not sure if you ever heard of or used a freebie called DriveImageXML?

Yup, I use it. That's what I've re-imaged from at first...but I still had to do a fixmbr and fixboot C:. I also did a bootcfg/rebuild. But that didn't do it so I just repaired it...But i have images....oh well...it really wouldn't hurt for a reinstall as this current install has been through completely new hardware (except for PSU and CD-ROM)....but I just don't know...

It sounds like a fresh install would be best, hence begin referred as the 'clean' install...u can't go wrong with that.

I know, it sucks to give up and do a clean install...but I do that too, especially if I think that repairing will take more than couple of hours and there is a good chance that things will not be quite back to normal.

Here is what I am thinking about your problem (since Safe Mode failed as well), logically the problem is either in registry or with the devices/drivers installed. Running the 'Repair'step would have rebuilt the registry so that obviously didn't help the other possibility that I was thinking is the DVD/CD-ROM drivers as well as the IDE ATA/ATAPI drivers that are installed.
So open the Device Manager, click on View and check Show Hidden devices option.
Expand and examine the DVD/CD-ROM list, if all looks fine, try removing them all one by one anyhow. Then look at the IDE ATA/ATAPI list, if you do not see anything odd then leave it as is for now and reboot the system. Let XP recognize and reinstall the drivers for the removed Optical Drives.
Once done, try running the Asus CD again to see if the problem still coming up or not. That is a long shot but it is simple to try and it might help...

Yeah....my whole thing is I have it the way I want it...but I can always get it back I guess....and being on dialup, I have to get all of my downloaded programs at work so I don't have to wait hours for them to download...not to mention all of the winderz updates....

When I showed all hidden devices, there was one on there that was wierd, the name was almost identical to the one of the first error.

I uninstalled the ONE CD-ROM that I have...no avail...oh well...next time I get some free time (will be a while) I'll get this going...in the meantime I guess I should build a list of things I want/need installed on my computer and start filling up my 1GB Free of my flash drive....
