    Question Won't load MB CD??

Well, I've been having some issues with my computer in the last week. I tried to install Ubuntu w/o sucess...GRUB kept erroring out so after working on it for an entire week, I've finally got it so the computer has no more remnants of Linux (except ISO's and VMWare) and almost back to normal (Damn me not backing up more often....if only I had a bigger drive).

But now, when I go to load up my ASUS CD I get the following error messages, one after the other. After the 3rd one, the autorun just closes....any ideas? I've tried google, but that doens't help, as almost ALL of the results are in a foreign language....

Try this simple thing if you already have not: try installing in the Safe Mode to see if it works.

Assuming the CD is in good working conition. what is it exactly that you are trying to install? Also more info on the OS you are installing this software on.

No i anted to confirm if you were using the standard (32-bit) version of XP and also what ServicePack you had installed, not the hw specs.
So, again, what is thie Asus CD is for? Drivers of some kind? If so, instead of running the executable to launch the GUI installation window, are you able to browse to the specific folder where the drivers you need are located at and install them that way?

Could be corruption in the file system or so it seems like but hard to say. What makes matters worse is we dont have the details on what this '2smart 4 his own good' 19yo geek did on his system prior to this issue...

ROFL!! I'm just ribbing TL, take a chill pill.

I am still running WinXP Pro SP2 (32-bit). No recent changes, except for my problems with trying to dual-boot with ubuntu.

I'm trying to run the CD to re-install my PCProbe, which I just tonight got reinstalled finally (though not off the CD). It still bothers me though, that I'm getting this error....

I take a 'chill pill' before I reply to each one of your posts! Hehe...
This is one of those vague, generic Windows errors that pretty much states that there are some system files (and possibly a section of the registry) is jacked up.

Re-running XP installation from the CD (without any re-partitioning or formatting) should fix the problem as it would delete and rebuild the entire Windows directory as well as the registry. Though, that would mean most if not all of the applications and drivers will have to be installed again.

If you know all the stuff you had done prior to this issue and willing to troubleshoot, then it might be worth looking into it further..

I am more than willing to troubleshoot, I hate these little issues. I did repair XP, in fact, I did it this morning due to some more issues with linux...remnants of my little "escapade."

So, I'm willing to try almost anything....so, what's next boss?

What do you mean you did repair? You ran the 'Repair' that comes up during the setup screen after booting to the XP CD? It should have re-installed the entire WINDOWS folder with its contents after deleting the existing one first which would also naturally rebuild a fresh registry and if that is what you did and it still didn't help then I am a bit baffled...

The only reference to errors/files you mentioned seemed to be with people who are running 64-bit version of Windows and trying to install the Asus drivers/utilities from the CD which I am assuming are designed for 32-bit OS which is what you have so it doesn't make sense only somehow the Linux installations (since they are generally 64-bit unlike Windows) caused a corruption in system to a point where the installer sees it as a 64-bit OS. This doesn't make much sense but if this is a driver CD, I would try downloading the most current drivers from Asus' web site and see if you can run their installer or not.

Yes, I booted from the WinXP install CD and did a repair from there. And no, it still didn't fix it......the only thing I haven't done to this drive is COMPLETELY format and reinstall it...I've done numerous repairs to the boot partition and I've completely killed the "linux" partition and already have it repartitioned as a normal NTFS partition.

All of my drivers work and I was able to get my PCProbe to install but there is still an issue loading the CD.
