    Converted another one...

    Converted another
Warning, this may be a long winded post. May also be fragmented.

My bestfriend, a former fiancee' of mine, just got converted. She was born in and raised in DC, and was brainwashed by the media to think only cops and badguys had firearms. Years ago when we were together, I did manage to get her out to the range a couple times and fire a couple pieces. ...it was a start. But for the last 8-9 years since we went splitsville(true friendship grew afterwards), she fell deep deep deep back into the anti-gun & firearm phobia thing.

She just got out of a violent relationship and certain threats had been made(ex-con boyfriend, still on parol). Also knocks at the door in the middle of the night, footprints around the windows, etc. She is also finishing up her last year in college to become a Crime Scene Investigator with LEO credentials, starting Act 120 training in the fall. So I've tried to warm her up on the firearm and carry issues, sometimes with some semi-heated debating.

Well, last week her concerns got the best of her in regards to her recent ex. She was already in acceptance of the matter that she should would need to start firearm safety and practice target shooting. I already offered to teach her all the basics and to help her get proficient with a pistol, so she broke down and gave in on the whole thing. I started reading off the laws to her, both firearm and the use of force in PA. She took notes and had some very good questions. I had also brought several of my firearms over to show her how to safely handle, clear, load, maintain, etc. With her petite build, she leaned towards my Bersa Thunder 380 as a piece to start out with.

So, we went at to one of my shooting spots (yeah, in today's crappy weather) and did some live fire training. ..which she did very well. She learned very quick what I taught her before going out to the range. ...safety, unloading, load. She score a perfect in my book. I asked her if she like the pistol, she said yes except the safety being made for a right handed person(she a south paw). I told her it was hers until we find a lefty gun that she likes.

Next, we went down to my favorite FFL and did the transfer, then hit Walmart for a lock box to keep it out of her kid's hands.

She's already asking when can we go back out to shoot. She's also digging the idea of getting her LTCF too.

I tell you what, its been a long decade of several debates over firearms with her. But it all paid off today. I was very proud of her, and now I got another shooting buddy.

    Update..

I took my lady friend in to get her LTCF yesterday..

Now we're looking for either a 38spl or 32mag 2-3" snubby for her. ..She's having a difficult time racking the slide on the Bersa Thunder 380 I gave her due to her just being a small petite person and having her hand broke a few months ago by that d!ckhead.

Lately, she's been prodding me alot to head to the gun shops and the range. lol I think I created a monster.

Yeah.. I'm gonna have her check one of those out too.

Here's the list I've come up with for candidates.

    1. Lady Smith
    2. Charter Arms, both south paw and regular 32 & 38cal
    3. Taurus
    4. Rossi 38spl.

She's got some small hands(lefty) and wrists, not very much strength in them either. Especially after having one broke. Budget will play a factor too, she doesn't have much money - and I only have a little to contribute seeing how property taxes are due now.

Another female friend of mine has a Rossi 38 which seems to be a nice shooter for a snubby. I think she's had it for over 10 years now and is very happy with it.

Linkage to candidates, but not limited to these:

check galleryofguns.com and you can probably get the best NIB deal.
the charter southpaw looks like a nice gun. some of the .38s can handle .357 and with a cylinder change, can handle 9mm and .380 (all the same diameter anyway). You might look for something like this for her that way she can practice with 9mm (affordable) or .380 (for the light recoil). then she can carry with .38 Special +P or .357 for better knock down. However, she will need to occationally shoot a bigger round just so she isn't afraid of the gun.

The big gun thing isn't much of a problem with her. Years before, I did get her to shoot my 1911 and my 45/410 derringers. ...and she's jokingly mentioned that outing recently.

I showed her the firearms in the links I provided, she took a liking to the SouthPaw version. Which I think is cool, because I've been thinking about getting one of Charter's pieces lately, particularly the 44spl. We'd have matching guns at the range. lol

Oh brother, sound like the matching towel/clothing thing for the domesticated males. lol Probably a good thing her and I aren't seeing each other, because I'd look like a leashed dog.

I was watching some speed shooter that was a southpaw. he reloading tactic was actually faster with a righty gun. he basically hung the frame on his right thumb while doing the rest of the reload with his left hand.

she might find a right hand revolver is better for her than a southpaw. afterall, a revolver doesn't have a mag release, safeties, and other features taht are only located on one side.
