    Busy company!

The same company that salvaged the Cougar Ace http://www.titansalvage.com/news.php?id=7 came to monterey bay to do a cleanup of the fuel oil tanks inside the S.S. Palo Alto.

After searching for the source of oil that had been killing sea birds in the area for several years some people discovered that the ship that had been sitting at seacliff beach for 80 some odd years still had oil in it's tanks.. They were looking for where the oil was coming out of, but didn't find any leaks... They finally figured out that the birds were entering a crack or "open" section on the top of the boat and going down into the oil tank through a passage. It wasn't leaking out anywhere, they were just getting inside there somehow and coming out covered in oil. Titan company came down and pumped the old oil out and cleaned it up, blocked off the tanks etc just in time for the anual Marc Monte Fireworks extravaganza held as an opportunity for MarVista to sell tickets as a school fundraser. I read somehwere that the fireworks show was put on by the Zambelli Family, not sure about that, but they were listed on the sponsor's page so I guess they did! I managed to get a few so/so pics, not the area I wanted to shoot from due to the wind blowing towards the coolest view but they turned out pretty cool looking anyway!
