So, I am having hard-time believing a 5yr old 3/4 ton 4x4 truck would get that...

I know by getting an enhanced air filtration system I can add another 2/3mpg but haven't seriously looked into it yet. I think it costs like $250-$300 but a worthy investment since I heard it -supposedly- increases car's power another 5 to 10 horsepowers. Getting a hard tonneau cover (snugtop $800) couple of years back, did improve the truck's aerodynamics which increased the mpg a little bit but more importantly it rides much smoother at higher speeds...

    AHAHAH!!! horsepowerS!!! Plural??!!?? Wow...

You can easily squeeze more mileage out of diesel trucks of any sort, increased filtration, improved exhaust, and a tuner are the top 3 best ways to do it. And with it being older, everything is broke in so it runs easier.

Let's not go into a type/misspell war hommie, I will skin ya alive!

But on your comment, I didn't know Mathster was referring to a Diesel truck! If so, then yeah, it does make sense.

Yea, diesel is the only way to go on a truck thats gonna work.
I have been in his truck, his trip computer consistantly shows in the 21 to 22 mpg range.
Altho, the new Chevy trucks have me reconsidering. I was planning on getting a new truck in the next couple years. we will have to see what they do in body styles.

Just remember the trip computers are NOT 100% accurate, you usually need to take 1-2 mpg off of them. The fiancee's car has one, says that she gets 24mpg, and right now she gets about 22...

still, even 20 mpg is impressive for a 3/4 ton 4x4 truck.

so anything else exciting happening in your country?

Yeah, it definitely is. My parents averaged about 18-20 with the old '97 F-350 PSD.

I use the good old way of looking at the tank capacity and the odometer to figure out my actual mpg. My NightHawk was supposed to go 45mpg in the city and like 50mpg on freeway. I commute half way on side streets half way on the freeway and a full tank only lasted about 122 miles before running out of gas then I switched to reserve. Since 3.5 gallons only lasted only 122miles, it goes about 34/35mpg which is quite less than the expected figures. Of course the condition of the carburetor, tires, etc. plus the way my crazyass rides it all factors into it but a 10mpg difference is a bit much imo.

My truck (2004 Silverado) does ok at 17/18mpg on average. I did like the front end of my previous Silverado better (2001) but I got used to this one eventually. I'd not wanna drive a diesel, they are generally too slow and noisy for my taste...

My dad had (2), a '95 and '99 Dodge Cummins 3/4 ton diesels and now a Ford F-350 King Ranch with 6.0l Powerstroke. The first Dodge got 22mpg with 3500lbs of oak firewood in the back on the interstate from PA to FL, mind you the truck's empty dry weight was 7800lbs too. His second Cummins we sup'd up too over 500hp and 750ft lb torque and the fuel economy went from 20mpg highway to 23mpg highway. His present Ford Powerstroke gets 17 in town and 19-21mpg highway - loaded or unloaded.

My nissan gets about 19 mpg on my mostly highway commute.
The best gas milage vehicle I have ever owned was a Chevy s10 at 24 mpg. too bad the transmission was slipping at 50K miles and the engine was starting to sound rough. I kinda miss the truck, just wish it had a better drive train.
The new chevy (2007) looks good, the previous looked like it was squinting. I agree, the 2001 had a nice front end.
