I've been looking into the drivers a bit more. I found mention in the manual on page 71 that ac97 is enabled via the realtek audio manager, by disabling the front panel audio jack detection and that the audio controller/codec/software only allows front header line out or rear header line out but not both when ac97 is enabled. Ensure that Front panel jack detection is enabled in the realtek audio manager. If that does not work, it may be a driver issue.

I read a few other install notes and found mention that the Microsoft UAA bus for high definition audio driver needs to be installed prior to installing the realtek audio drivers. The driver pack that I linked to mentioned that it includes the UAA bus driver as well. Not sure if that is any help.

The suggestions that I read for installing the new drivers mentioned to uninstall the old drivers first. To do that, the suggestion was to go uninstall the realtek drivers and remove the realtek HD audio device from sound/video/game controllers.. then go into system devices, find and disable the uaa bus device, then once disabled, right click and select uninstall, then scan for hardware changes, then cancel the driver installs that pop up for new hardware, uninstall the old audio manager from add/remove programs.. Then install the new uaa bus driver and new audio drivers.
