"Another security measure" ~this will help prevent other people from being able to use your laptop, when you are not around.

Open the control panel, open "user accounts" then select "change the way users log on or off" then uncheck "use fast user switching" then uncheck "use welcome screen" then click on "apply changes" You will notice a different startup screen, the next time you restart your computer, instead of the "welcome" and the icon/user name, you will have to type in your user name and password.

You may not want to use automatic updates; it can slow down normal usage of the computer if it is trying to download stuff in the background.. I usually turn off automatic updates, and then carefully select "updates" manually using the windows update website.

To turn off automatic updates, open the control panel; open "system" then select the "automatic updates" tab, then check "turn off automatic updates" click on apply, then click on OK.

"error reporting" This setting may free up some resources,

Open "control panel" then open "system", in the system properties click on the "advanced" tab, then down at the bottom, click on the "error reporting" button, in the error reporting options, select "turn off error reporting" then check "but notify me when critical errors occur" then click on OK

    your previous question:

This is your graphics card "integrated intel 945 graphics controller" To determine if you need to install the graphics driver:

Right click on a blank section of your laptops "desktop area" and select properties, you will get the "display properties" menu, select the "settings" tab, then click on the "advanced" tab, then click on the "adapter" in the "adapter types" If you see "intel 945" in the adapter types, you do not need to install the driver, windows already did it.

If it says vga save, or vga compatible something like that, but does not say "intel" install the intel 945 driver.

And then on the 2nd website it says to install the Modem, so under the same category are the above two items I can click. Which one is the modem?
neither of those is the nic, those are the drivers and application for the built in v.92 modem; "phone jack on the back of the laptop" install the one that say's "driver" first, then the one that says application, if you want the modem to have a properties and configuration interface, and probly a little icon in the system tray to access the modem properties page.

Secondly, anything that looks remotly close to that is under Input Device Drivers - Synaptics - Driver - Touchpad.
Get the Synaptics Driver for the touchpad, install them.

This is located under the Communication Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.
    PCMCIA/Smartcard controller

And those are NO WHERE to be found on the first page. Also, there are more drivers/things to download on the first website that are mentioned TO download on the second website.
This first page/second page thing is confusing, stick with the drivers page that you get after entering your service tag.

Regarding the differences in the pages and number of drivers available; The page that you get when you enter your service tag provides you with the drivers for the hardware that is included with your laptop, as configured by dell when it shipped from dell, to the retailer/customer.. If there's a service history, it will also show if there were any addons, or upgraded hardware through an authorised dell service center, or dell factory service center etc.. they usually update the computers "LOG" to include any ad-ons or upgrades, so those upgrades and ad-ons might have drivers listed on the service tag site as well..

The other tab is the drivers and applications for every possible option/configuration of that model laptop, that dell offers...

You probly don't have most of the options that they list in the "all" or "other devices" portions, such as the blue-tooth adapters etc, so they don't show up in your drivers/software list when you entered your service tag. In the attached image, I have circled the tab that includes the drivers for your specific laptop/as configured from dell, in GREEN, the red circle is for "all" you don't need to go there.

    Hey Guys,

Since I came on here to apologize and say thank you, I tried to reformat my brothers computer. During his installation, this error comes up:

    ngen.exe entry point not found

The procedure entry point GetRequestedRuntimeVersion could not be located in the dynamic link library Mscoree.dll.

It Came up under Registering Components in the "Installiong Windows" section of the reformat process.

    Have any thoughts, or ideas?

So then I hit "OK" 20 times to get rid of that error, and this one came up as well:

    .Net Framework Initialization Error
C:\\Windows\Microsoft.net\Framework\v2.0.50727\msc orwks.dll could not be loaded.

And then the entire thing finishes up, and I turn my computer on and its back to how it was before I started with all my programs. It said 15 minuets away from being completed too.

Could be hardware or software related; either way, start a new thread for this in the OS section; http://forum.networktechs.com/forumdisplay.php?f=14

Title should be: windows installation error

To get better help/suggestions, include some information about the PC that you are having problems with.
    Some info needed:
The computer make/model, any upgrades, or other changes from factory spec
or if the PC is custom built

The Motherboard make/model boar revision number and the bios version.

    The brand/amount of ram installed
The brand and model of CPU
    The brand/model optical drive "cd/dvd"
    The brand/model videocard
The brand/model and wattage rating for the power supply.

In the mean time, check that there are no scratches or dirt/finger prints on the installation disc. If the disc is dirty, it can be cleaned with warm water and liquid dish soap, then dabbed dry with a clean towel, then dusted..
If the disc is scratched on the bottom/read face, it can be buffed, if it is scracted on the label side and you can see light through the scratch from the bottom, the disc is no good. If the disc is clean and not scratched, ensure that the hardware is clean; check the components for dust buildup, if dust is found on the cooling heatsinks, and or system board/components, clean it off.

Ensure that the computer is not overclocked while installing windows.

Also, try reseating the ram by unclip the side tabs, then pressing the memory back in till the side tabs click back into place..
