    Tandem keyboard conflict

I alternate between my Gateway laptop's standard keyboard and an old Gateway Millenium PS/2 keyboard plugged in the USB port. I have the latest drivers installed, but when numbers lock is engaged on one keyboard, it's off on the other one and vice versa. I installed a MS script (support.microsoft.com/kb/31487) and I've turned the recommended switches on with regedit, but nothing corrects this alternating conflict. It's no biggie, but it's an annoyance when I'm not looking and find I've typed a line interspersed with numbers that were supposed to be all alphabets. Any other fixes?

There's a temp fix suggested by "samboy" at hp user forums that involves starting the onscreen keyboard "osk.exe" then selecting numlock via the onscreen keyboard using the mouse/pointer, then turning off the onscreen keyboard. Avoid pressing the physical keyboard's numlock key after applying the onscreen keyboard numlock, as doing so will reset the odd alpha key's turning into numbers.
