Is this still happening?
If yes, are you not able to pinpoint the culprit by means of a real-time monitoring tool such as Process Monitor from SysInternals that captures all registry events? Perhaps even the Event Viewer logs could help?

What is your opinion of SSDs so far. I was thinking of getting one in the near future, worth the $$ or not?
