Just ask if he has put a bandwidth restriction on your connection.. If he has, I highly recommend respecting his boundries.. Ask him nicely; "If you have capped my connection, can you offer me a compramise, I would like to play games on the internet without LAG, and the cap's are lagging my game play.. Are there any times of day, or day's of the week that you can uncap me so I can play full speed??

Ask him also, If you have not capped me; I read there is some chance that your ISP is sending IP directed ARP MAC address broadcasts; cable companies do this on their internet service//, or they allow outside sources to do innitiate IP directed ARP broadcasts.... They use it to either build and update their IP tables, or they do this to gather internal computer hardware MAC addresses and IP associations to deny connections to "wireless equipment" to reduce customer's offering piggyback rides to their neighbors... or they can use the MAC/IP association for other purposes..

Ask your uncle if he's not capping you, to do a packet sniffing session with a popular packet sniffer that allows connection sumary; that will show the number of packets per second inbound for specific protocols.. sniff on the cable modems ethernet port and look for ARP broadcasts to MAC address 00:00:00:00:00:00:00 or something like that,,, coming in at a high rate, 100 to 250 packets per second..

IP directed ARP storms will CHOKE your internet connection and give you pings upwards of 1.5-3 seconds.. 1500ms to 3000ms and packet loss/dropped packets..


If you were my nephew and you did something to my personal property, like resetting the firmware to defaults, after I placed bandwidth throttle's on your connection, so that I can use MY internet without lag... You would no longer get internet access from ME you'd have to go out and buy your own, or worse, find somewhere else to reside.... So tread lightly in this way of thinking.. You are better off with the pride of ownership of a trustworthy relationship with your family members.... that and you can always earn some doh and get your own DSL connection if you are close enough to the CO..
