    internet explorer

Here is my problem. On my laptop with windows vista I cannot type a certain web address in my address bar and get to the page. If i do a search at google and then click on the link I can get there. This is a personal website that i have built for my local softball league. There is not any other computer that this link does this on. I have tried multiple pc's, checking to see if maybe it was my site. Could somebody please try and help me with this little issue. This seems to be the only site that is doing this.

Make sure that you type in http:// before the URL
If that does not work there could be a security setting preventing PC from opening the website. Try adding the full url to internet explorer trusted sites.

You may have to flush the DNS cache on your vista machine

    Windows IP Configuration
Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.

What happens if you do a google search, then highlight the URL at the bottom of the link discription" right click on the hilighted URL; then paste the link into the address bar? then press enter? is there an error 404 page not found in the webpage/content area, or something like "dns error" at the bottom lefthand side of your internet explorer window, in the status area?

If your browser still will not open this web url, after flushing the DNS cache, open start run cmd, at the command prompt, type in tracert[one space after tracert in the same line]www.domainname.com then press enter..

It should look like the following, except your website address goes where I put the phrase domainname

    C:\tracert www.domainname.com

Once you press enter, if you see tracing route to www.domainname.com[number.number.number.number] "this is the IP address of your website"

if it times out "destination unreachable" even after flushing the cache, you may need to restart the network between your computer "laptop" and the server.

If the address matches, DNS is working, but something else is not.

Ok i flushed the dns and still no luck. But here is something that has worked. I am able to get to wireless connection from my house, mine and a neighbors. If i disconnect from mine and connect to the neighbors network it works. So why is that?

Don't worry about it too much; I personally don't provide support for wireless networking, so I may only be able to point you in the right direction to elliminate certain issues; I can provide regular IP networking support for wired networks; it's essentially the same "protocol" in regards to troubleshooting..

If you had done the test I suggested; you could make sense of your situation.. Using the suggestions; You can find out if your router/connection was able to aquire/resolve the correct domain name to network address; if you can do a trace route from your laptop on your connection, without piggybacking on your neighbors "this is not legal" ~not even if he say's it's OK, your neighbors ISP may have logged your computer's MAC address as it attempted to connecto to his network.. It's good to help isolate the issue, but not the correct way to trouble shoot..

If your trace route test provides you with an IP address: and successfull trace route without timing out or "destination unreachable" in the trace route results; your computer is physically able to connect to the website; "as you mentioned earlier, the google search takes you there... You can compare this trace route IP address to the IP address that you get from the other computers! and also the IP address that shows when you connect to the LINK via google.. If the tracert IP address is not the same on your connection as it is via the results when you piggybacked, and if the piggybacked connection tracert shows the same website host IP address; the IP address match the google/ipwhois lookup; your networking equipment, between your computer and the internet needs to have the dns cache flushed and reset.. Many times this will just fix itself as the IP host updates the router's inline between your server and ISP, but sometimes the networking equipment can get a buffer issue; a corrupted entry or has locked onto an old address; if the server has a dynamic address etc.. the new address get's updated by the active crawlers; but not the inactive secure layer connection via the wireless router's DNS cache.... If restarting the equipment does not fix the issue; then there is some other software issue on the router or your ISP..

If they do not match; then your router's dns cache/routing for your particular computer's connection might be corrupted and should be "cleared" by power cycling the modem/router.....

Stick to the steps that I recommended earlier, that way you can determine factual issues; instead of circumventing the issue..

"restarting the network between the computer and the server" Whatever hardware you have in between you and the internet; should be able to be restarted, without loosing configuration data; if your networking guy set it up correctly... When the equipment is restarted; it will ask the DNS server for NEW info; instead of using what it already has cached... this is an easy step to do if you are on a basic network PC;DHCP (switch/gateway/router)modem-internet. Restarting the equipment should go like this; shut down and turn off the computer; turn off the router/ turn off the modem.... wait a while, 20-30 seconds up to 5 minutes.. then turn the modem back on, wait for it to gain connection, turn the router on, wait for it to link to the modem, then turn the PC on. Your pc should get an IP address from your router/gateway via DHCP..

If power cycling does not fix it, there is some other software issue that is preventing your router or your PC from finding the host, or the route to the host..
