iamnotageek.com wont be forwarding to here much longer

I've been doing quite a bit of local Xbox and PC repairs so instead of just having iamnotageek.com forward here like its done for so long I'm going to start using it for my PC stuff. I'm going to put together a bunch of Xbox repair guide type stuff. I have a TON of parts on their way and will be selling RROD DIY repair kits and the service of repairing them, flashing to ixtreme and other oddball repair things.

I am currently looking for a location to open a shop up right now! Real estate prices have dropped like a rock so I'm looking for a place that has a decent apartment ABOVE the store so basically instead of just paying my mortgage I'd be paying for a shop. Going to lowball the hell out of people and take advantage of good interest rates.

I'm going to be setting up an ecommerce solution that will mainly center around console mods! I believe I'll build traffic using some articles and offer services that go along with them I'm also going to put up a ton of listings on ebay for various things so if you guys start finding some console mod threads I'll try my best to answer them as they come through.

Now we know why servers were switched...so that nobody would find us. Take a look at how many posts we've had since this happened...even the spammers can no longer find this place.

All I said was that iamnotageek.com wasn't going to forward direct to this forum anymore!

I am still going to be LINKING to the forum... I am going to be rolling out some new content even that will give this place a shot at bringing in new USERS.

Thanks for the heads up, I'm using "forum.networktechs.com" to get here, been typing it in or using a forum.networktechs.com shortcut for a while. Started doing that back when you did some moving around regarding the Arcade.

The new venue sounds interesting. I still have my 360 stuff; Games, wires, controllers and kb/mouse adapter, just no console I might be interested in getting another console and modding the crap out of it/ custom case/watercooling/paint/glowy things etc..

I've ordered an insane amount of screws, washers, thermal paste and other things for opening the xbox and doing things like RROD fixes.

I'm working on finding suppliers for a LOT of other mod related things. It's hard to find good suppliers though.

There's some cool stuff out there, but they all seem to have their OWN shops. You might try to become a partner or value added reseller to one of the custom shops, that way you could carry their line of cases n mods? Might be tough to do that from the start, but it seems like it might be easier more cost effective, compared to getting custom stuff made just for you.

    What kinda paste?

We've had ours apart several times with just basic tools, but it was difficult to figure it out on our own. One current problem my nephew has with his console is that the drive won't eject. I was reading a fix that included adding a shim of celo-tape to the top of the disc motor; I was gonna fix it when they weren't looking :P

Do you know what happens to the drive to make it not want to eject? or if there's a more stable/permanent fix for this without replacing the drive...

Also, have you looked into re-lube products for re-lubing the read carriage and drive tray gears? I was thinking some silicone spray on the tray and vcr eject goo for the gears but I don't know what's appropriate for the read head, it's got some kind of grease for the plastic tabs and metal worm gear.

Most of the time I just replace drives, it ends up more cost affective then playing with it for a couple of hours. I give them like $5-10 for the funky drive and sell them a new drive. I usually then just ebay the drives off. the last couple of sticky drives though started working again after taking it out of the case, flashing the drive upside down and then just putting it back together carefully with less tension on the screws.

The bulk of what I'm looking at is importing a bunch of stuff from China/Hong Kong where when you do bulk orders you can get things REALLY cheap! I'm trying to track down a factory that makes xbox drives because you can get the knockoffs WAY cheaper and just flash the firmware and pay a more normal price for DVD drives like $15.

Basically most of the things I import I'll be able to just undercut the current shops in price until I build up a customer base.
