If you have been using the computer since this last MBA-M it really is pretty much a worthless post, plus it was run two days BEFORE the HJT log you posted. In order to really clean a computer the steps must be done as rapidly as possible. We have no way of knowing what else may have gotten on the computer in the past 11 days. I am not sure who you are speaking to when you say
uploaded the requested file to each site
I am not even certain WHO this Grinler person is, he certainly is not a regular poster here.
If you want to clean the computer then you will have to update MBA-M and run another Full Sytem scan and have it clean everything found. You say your Trend Micro is now identifying the file this person requested but you do not say what identification it is giving. Unless I get full information there is no way I can tell you what to attempt to remove it.

I have not been using the computer since the 13th. The 11th was when I began trying to clean, regardless I'm currently running another full MBAM and will post the results soon. I'm speaking to each of you when I say I uploaded the requested file to your sites for analysis. On the site you requested a few of the tests detected the bug, however it said that it had been uploaded previously and would not be stored in the database.

Regarding my trend micro message, it detects the file that you had requested me to upload and says it cannot be cleaned or quarantined. In other words it's only detecting it. Here is the exact message:

OfficeScan has detected one or more threats. Check under Result for scan action information.

Click the threat name to view manual cleaning instructions (if necessary) and detailed information about the threat.

Here is a link to the page trend provides for virus info/manual removal:

    http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/viru...LE.BG&VSect=Sn

I'll be posting the results of my latest MBAM shortly.

Glad to know you haven't been using the computer. This is always of great concern when a person posts logs with obvious infections and then do not return. The risks of continuing to use the computer with the infection not yet removed are great...additional infections installed, which this one will do, or infection of other computers via file sharing or infection of flash drives or installation to a cd via a cd burning program and then transfer to other computers by that flash drive or cd. This is why we always are concerned when the poster does not return.

The trojan your Trend Micro found is also called Antivirus2008, Trojan FakeAlert, Win32/FakeSpyguard, SpywareGuard2008 and many others. It is found and identified by numerous other scanners.

As I said, in my post, we have no idea who this Grinler poster is, the site he asked you to post to is a legitimate site but he is not one of our helpers here. Of course this is a public site so we generally have little control who posts here but our advice normally is to continue with steps given by your original helper and ignore those who are unknown or wait for advice from your helper. Nothing he requested is wrong just...we don't know him or why he made the actual request since I had requested the upload to http://virusscan.jotti.org/, which is the one we normally use and you found that other scanners readily identify this infection. I basically wanted to know the NAME given to the infection found in the file by the various av scanners that site uses. It aids in removal.

MBA-M should be able to remove this. TrendMicro cannot remove it because it is a Trojan, not a virus. Most or many antivirus programs cannot remove trojans, this is why multiple programs are always recommended. I will wait for your MBA-M log. Be sure to have it clean everything found. Also, after that REBOOT the system and run a new HJT scan and post that log too. Does your Trend Micro program give you the option to REMOVE it? I know it cannot fix or quarantine but if the option is give to remove then you should do that.

    I know I shouldn't have left

Alright, I know I shouldn't have left but all my symptoms were gone so I assumed the problem was handled (I know, newbie mistake).

The warning has stopped popping up, however, I went to access some of my word files the other day whilst filling out applications and found that all of the text in the word documents in my "My Documents" folder has been turned to gibberish and funky characters. When first opening the document it asks me to choose the encoding, giving a preview of the text below. All options provide different types of gibberish.

I assume that the problems are related somehow as the warning was saying I needed to download filefix 2009 to fix my files (not doing it). Anyway, I'll be on the road for most of today but I will try to check back frequently over the weekend and follow any and all steps in a timely manner.

Some solutions I've tried, yet haven't worked:

A few programs that claim to restore corrupt word files
    Open and Repair option
    Recover Text from any file
Open with other programs (wordpad, notepad, open office)
Send to another computer (both mac and pc)
Copy paste contents to another document

Thanks for your time and consideration.

The computer is OBVIOUSLY infected. None of the scans done previously are worth anything now since you have waited so long and you didn't follow the instructions given here before. If you want to clean the computer then you have to stick with it, follow through with all instructions immediately right on to the end. Doesn't matter that you DIDN'T download filefix 2009 the trojan is all ready on the computer.Downloading it would just add more, so you made a wise choice there.
Here is what this Trojan does:
FileFix Professional is ransomware that requires you to purchase it in order to fix files that have been encrypted (this is the gibberish you speak of)on your computer This program is advertised through a Trojan that has a filename of C:\Windows\system32\fpfstb.dll. (that is the file I asked you to upload to jotti) When you are infected with this Trojan, every time you open a Office document, PDF, etc, it will encrypt the file so that it becomes unreadable by it's normal application. When you try to open these files, this same Trojan will display an alert stating that your file is corrupted and that you should click on the alert in order to fix the file.
You now are going to have to begin at the beginning.
Update MBA-M and since you have waited nearly three months the update will include a newer version. Open the program and click Update and follow the prompts.
Once the update is complete run a Full System Scan with it and allow it to Remove everything found.
    Reboot the computer.
Run and New HJT scan and then post back with both the MBA-M log and the new HJT log.
WARNING....if you do not follow through to the end of this fix you are running the risk of having MORE trojans on the system and finally may be looking at a full reformat and reinstall.
