zafi.B virus stopping everything

I bought norton 360 this morning and went to install it and was not able to because I keep getting a message that a zafi.b virus is found and then the application crashes. Mozilla and explorer both crash after about 30 seconds so I can't even get online to get HIJack this on the PC to post the log file here. This is a brand new PC that I only got a week ago and shame on me for not installing norton 360 right away. How do I fix this so I can get the norton 360 loaded on the machine?

Hi, looks like you figured out how to get hjt on the machine before anyone got back to you on this; First things first. Go to the before you post sticky

Maybe on another computer? to get the information and applications needed, possibly print out the instructions if you can't get online with the infected machine. Once you have gone through those steps in the sticky "cleaning and diagnostic" post the requested logs here.

ok. i ran the malicioius software tool; atf cleaner; and malwarebytes (note that malwarebytes could not update the files because I still can't stay online it just crashes; also could not do eset online scanner just kept crashing the program.

Thanks for the logs, I won't be back online till later today and our regular, Jholland will be away from the forum for a few days.. It might be a few hours before I can get back to looking at your logs. I don't want to leave you hanging though.. If you can boot in safemode without the computer crashing; you may try to run some of the suggested fixes in safemode, even without updates.. It helps to run your antivirus/anti-malware application two or three times, restarting windows between runs; if there's anything that needs to be removed durring restart "due to the infected file being either a running or protected system file" You might also find some self help info by searching semantec antivirus database for information on removing zafi.b and it's remnants/// may have to be done from another machine etc..

well the good news is after running several of the suggested items i was able to get norton 360 to load successfully and it appears to have grabbed the file. so far i can surf without crashing and all my live updates appear to be working.

Hello, sorry but I have been away for 10 days. I see cauz got you started. What you should do now is update Malwarebytes program and run a full system scan with it. Allow it to remove all it finds. Save the log.
Reboot the system and run a new HJT scan and post back here with both those logs and I will take another look.
