Laptop won't boot into any mode

Hi Judy! (or anyone else who happens to read this!)

My wife seems to have picked up a virus on her Lenovo Thinkpad that is preventing us from getting past the screen to choose which mode to start in. No matter what we choose we get the message that there is a virus and it sends us right back to that screen.

I am attempting to get it to start up so we can run the cleaner programs (ATF, MBA-M, Windows Malicious Software Removal, etc.). In the event I can't, how would you recommend getting there? We got this computer from Craigslist several months ago and it has worked fine, but we didn't get any software discs from the guy. Will I need to make a boot disc from my laptop to use to get the other one to start?

We ended up taking this into a local shop. So far they've found a bunch of trojans among other stuff. I'll let you know if we need further assistance.
