    Direct Play Voice Setup

I'm having trouble with my mic setup. I'm going into the control panel, "Sounds and Audio Devices", click on the "voice" tab, then click the "Test Hardware" button. The Sound Hardware Test Wizard starts, then after the bars build all the way across, I get the following error message...
"An error occurred during Direct Play Voice setup. The Error Code Is 0x80004005." When I click "OK" on that box, another pops up saying "Windows cannot execute DPVSetup.exe, use Add/Remove Programs Control Panel to install.

I've looked in add/remove program, add/remove Windows Components, I've even gotten out the XP disc and looked on there. I'm not finding it. I can find it listed 3 times on my computer in Windows. I've also reinstalled Direct X 9c, just because. I went through all the sound tests in DX with no problems found.

I know my mic and headphones work. I listen to music and use them for gaming all the time. If I go to the control panel under "Speech" and then click "configure microphone" I can go through all the steps there and I can hear the playback and the bar indicates speech just fine. I also have been using a program called "e-Speaking" which is an application for voice controlling your computer. This works with no problems.

The application that let me first know there was some trouble was Microsoft Sidewinder Game Voice. I was trying to get it to run and that's when I started encountering these messages. I used to use Game Voice all the time on this same computer. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling, but no help.

I'm attaching my system info and my HJT log. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

OK, so no one knows squat about this I see. I find it hard to believe I've stumped the panel with this. If there is no knowledge about this specific issue, then can anyone give me a reason that I shouldn't try repairing XP? I have searched high and low about this issue and the only thing I have found is that more than a few people have this issue. I have removed the Game Voice device and uninstalled the associated software, but still have the problem.

    Any ideas at all?

I didn't find anything specific about it, If all else fails, including repair, re-installation of dx etc.. A clean re-install of windows might help? Sorry.
