    Possible HJT / VIRUS

    Hi

I am running Vista Home Premium

Recently find that on occasions PC running somewhat slowly. Even though popup blocker is enabled, find that I receive several popups during the process of arriving at site requested. Sometimes after the URL requested, the odd popup appears which has absolutely nothing to do with site requested.
I am beginning to wonder if a virus which might be causing these problems.
Hence attaching HJT for analysis, completed today.

Thanks for any help is possibly helping me to overcome my probs if possible.

Looks to me like there ISN'T a pop-up blocker.
You know the routine here if you feel the computer is infected.
Follow the steps given HERE and post back with MBA-M log, and be sure to reboot AFTER completing the scan and removing items found.
Reboot again after doing the ESET online scanner and DO allow it to fix whatever is found even though in the instructions it says not to do so.
Then do another HJT scan and post the log.

If I remember correctly, we had a thread some time ago in which we found SearchFilterHost.exe to be a major cpu hog and responsible for big slowdowns.

Hello Stranger! Happy New Year to you too!
    Here's the info I had stored on this SearchFilterHost from bleeping computer;
You can turn it off by opening your Services folder (click Start, Run, type services.msc and click OK), changing the Windows Search service startup type from Automatic to Manual and then clicking Stop the service.

Hope the coming year is better than the last few. Seems like I have to work twice as hard to get half as far these days!

It's funny how all these things in Vista that are supposed to be "improvements" are just resource hogs that bog you down.
From what I recall, this one is difficult to stop as it keeps restarting.....

'course the problem could be due to malware too.... I didn't look too hard - just wanted to drop in on IANAG and say hi.

    Hi Judy

    HAPPY NEW YEAR

Late response due to certain difficulties which hopefully have been sorted. The major problem was ESET and Kaspersky scans. The ESET scan was run, found nothing but I experienced problems saving scanlog showing the findings.
As for Kaspersky scan, that was a major headache, in that whenever I did a scan it never completed. Tried on several occasions and it appeared to have stuck at 95% which was possibly not correct. The point at which it stuck was while scanning inbox.dbx files (probably email). On each occasion it went on and on but never got any further than 95%. Scanning time differed each time depending on how long I was prepapared allow it to continue.
Eventually restarted and configured the settings, disabling parsing of email in the scan settings. This appeared to have done the trick because the scan ran successfully as attachement will show and nothing was found. Hopefully what I did was correct.
The fact that I was unable to sucessfully do a ESET LOG, what is attached can possibly be opened in Microsoft Office Picture Manager, but as mentioned above the result showed nothing.

    Here are results
