What you can't see is the ghetto POE. I basically cut the wire to the wall wart and spliced it into the unused wires in the cat 5E cable and then broke that out to the 5v connector near the router end of the cable. Not very elegant, but as was already mentioned, CHEAP.
I will eventually get things mounted in a waterproof box with a higher gain antenna, but I'm kind of between rooms right now so I don't wan't to commit to an installation until I know where to put the thing.
why not run a high gain directional antenna and put the router inside?

Also don't forget that the ship moves so a directional antenna would require constant adjustment. That is why I am going to use an omni, but the reason to put the router in a waterproof box is because you lose quite a bit of signal strength with longer antenna cable runs so the shorter the antenna cable the better.
That makes sense...It'd suck to be in the middle of something and boom...no more connection...
