    Problems Right Clicking Images

    Hi, I've been having some problems with image files. Whenever I:

    Right-click an image file;
    Select an image/images and ctrl-c/ctrl-x;
    Select an image and open the file menu,

    Windows attempts to load a program called Omnipage SE, which I don't have on my computer (nor do I ever remember having, but it is a good few years old now and may have had it at some point). I have to cancel the attempted installation before the right-click menu comes up or the image is copied. If I allow the installation to continue, I am asked for a CD that I do not have.

    Simply opening an image is okay, no matter which program I use. I've tried changing the file associations anyway, but it still tries to open Omnipage SE if I right click.

    I'm using Windows XP; can anyone shed some light on this? Is there an easy way of preventing it happening? It's quite annoying.

    Omnipage is scanner software. Does this happen with ALL images or just specific ones? I too am using XP but don't get any choice like that when I try to open an image file, any image file whether it is all ready on my computer or one on a web page using Right Click. Is that the ONLY option you get, nothing else but the noted program?

    Hi,

    The problem in question is just for images stored on the hard drive or from CD/flash drive. Right clicking an image on the internet gives me the usual right-click options.

    I've just checked, and it happens for all Jpegs, Gifs and Bitmaps. If I right click any of these types of files, I get "Please wait while Windows configures OmniPage SE", and I have to hit 'cancel' if I want the normal options.

    I just discovered that if I hit 'Properties' in the right-click menu, it tries to install Omnipage again before giving me the image properties box.

    Are these pictures you have scanned and saved?

    No, any and all pictures: Uploaded from a camera, saved from the Internet, created in MS Paint...any .jpg, .gif or .bmp file.

    Have you ever had a scanner? If so, what was/is it? Find out the software that came with it and see if it is installed.

    So now, here's how this problem is dealt with specifically on my system:

    * After the system boots up, right clicking on any picture file for the first time slows down the right click menu because of OmniPage being in the right click menu. To remove OmniPage 15 from the right click menu, remove all opshel15 registry entries. If previous versions such as version 14 were installed on the system previously, remove opshel14 entries etc. as well.

    So in my case:
    Start Menu > Run... > regedit > OK
    Scroll up and click on My Computer > Edit > Find... >
    opshel15
    Delete all opshel15 entries. (Press F3 to find next opshel15 entry.)
    Delete all opshel14 entries.
    Delete all opshel12 entries.
    Also found this bit of info at PCreview.co.uk forums

    If the installer cleanup doesn't do it; try this:

    Depending on what version of omnipage that may have been installed at one point, these opshel entries my remain in the windows registry. Try opening start|run|regedit, then make a backup of your registry by going to the regedit file menu and select "export registry file" or something like that; once you have your registry backed up, click on the top of the registry tree "my computer" then go to the edit menu, click on find, or just use CTRL+F, then type in opshel then click search, delete the entry, find next | delete entry, do this until you don't find anymore opshel entries. Once you have them all deleted, exit regedit, then reboot.
