    Follow the instructions below from McAfee AFTER following my instructions for running AVG again. And AFTER doing the recommended fixes listed below with HJT.

    Download Privacy Service removal tool from the link below:
    http://download.mcafee.com/products/...leanupTool.exe

    Save the file on your Desktop and then double click on the file to run it. This will remove Privacy Service from your computer.

    Restart the computer and reinstall the program
    Use the following link for information on reinstalling.
    http://tools.mcafeehelp.com/doc.php?...902&support=ts
    Now you HJT log look clean but the AVG log shows two items were found but not fixed.
    Run AVG again in SAFE MODE and this time please configure it to FIX do that this way following PhilliePhan's instructions;
    Please Launch AVG Anti-Spyware.
    -- Click on the Scanner button and choose the Settings Tab.
    ---> Under How to act?, click on Recommended action and choose Quarantine to set default action for detected malware.
    --->Under Reports make sure Automatically generate report after every scan is selected and UNCHECK the Only if threats were found box.
    -- Leave everything else at their default settings and Select the Scan tab and CLICK Complete System Scan to scan your machine.
    -- Upon completion of the scan, Click Apply all actions to place any detected baddies in Quarantine.
    -- AFTER clicking Apply all actions, Click on Save Report and select Save the report to your Desktop.

    Now reboot to NORMAL. The first thing you must do is to relocate HJT to it's own file using these instructions from PP;
    For Windows XP users, here is one way to do that:
    To create a new folder:
    Click START > My Computer > Local Disc C: > Program Files
    Now, RightClick on an Empty Area and select New > Folder & name it HijackThis and Click ENTER.
    To Extract HijackThis:
    Now, RightClick your HijackThis ZIP File and select Extract All > Next > and browse to your newly created HijackThis Folder (C:\Program Files\HijackThis)and click Next.
    It is EXTREMELY important that HijackThis be properly located before you use it!
    **** Also, please be sure to RENAME hijackthis.exe to hjtscan.exe or analyze.exe by RightClicking hijackthis.exe and selecting Rename. This is important!

    With ALL Browsers Closed;
    Now run HJT again and place checkmarks next to the following;

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - ~CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

    I must ask you here, are YOU the Pogo game player or is it somebody else who uses the computer? If it is not you and you don't want them on the computer also place checkmarks next to the following entries. If you do play these games then it is fine and leave these entries alone.

    Remember, (if YOU want to leave those POGO games on the computer they are fine, but if you don't use them then go ahead and have HJT remove them too)
    Once you have placed all the checkmarks then click the FIX button.
    Exit HJT. Reboot the computer and procede with the McAfee program.
    Post back here with the new AVG log.

    I am attaching the new AVG.

    I have privacy service installed and running.

    Thank you thank you.......

    I have a few questions.

    Is it best to run a virus scanner, AVG, and spyware dectectors always in the safe mode?

    How often should these be ran?

    I would say no they don't have to be run in safe mode unless you suspect a problem. The anti-virus scanner should really be set on automatic, both updates and weekly scanning. I use AdAwareSE, and Spybot weekly, both on full system scans and I do it in normal mode manually. I update them each week before I scan. Those are really the only two I use all the time. If I suspect something then I go to safe mode and run them all but generally I run just those two and in Normal Mode.

    The pogo stuff is fine, as long as you installed it and know it is there.

    Another really fantastic protection program is SpywareBlaster
    What is especially nice about it is that it DOES NOT run in the background. It protects both Internet Explorer and Firefox against nasty items and also has a Restricted sites section that restricts the actions of potentially unwanted sites in Internet Explorer. All you need to do is download, update and then enable it and close it. That's it. Just update it weekly and enable anything new from the updates. A really great FREE program.
