Computer has been running bery slow..

My laptop has been very slow the past week. The computer has been very hot and the very seems to be running faster then normal. You could deffinatley hear the difference, but the computer is running slower. Ive tried to clean my computer with the recommended steps, but no changes. The HJT scan says that, "For some reason your system denied write access to the hosts file." I followed the directions but still the same error. Ive tried to use the online scanner, but all of them won't run. Here are my logs,

Download the new version from HERE and run a new scan. But MBA-M shows that it is listed in auto starts, this should be removed from there as it should not auto start.

Since it appears the computer scanned clean try disabling the following programs from auto starting using Codestuff Starter.
None of these are required to run at start up and all can be used manually if needed without difficulty.
Install CodeStuff Starter. Open the program and click Start Ups Tab and remove check marks from the following:
Windows Defender ...just use it for scanning.
HP Software Update...can be run manually
Adobe Reader Speed Launcher...can be run manually. Only speeds opening of Adobe Reader by a few seconds
QuickTime Task...not required
[iTunesHelper...not required
SysTrayApp...System tray program for the Sigmatel Audio sound card. Often found on Dell computers. Not required, uses quite a bit of resources.
HP Health Check Scheduler...bundled with HP computers, nobody seems to know exactly what this does.
NvCplDaemon...Intializes the clock and memory settings on nVidia based graphics card.leave enabled if you overclock your card
IAAnotif...IAA Event Monitor User Notification Tool - part of Intel® Application Accelerator - "a performance software package for desktop PCs using select Intel® chipsets" that "replaces the ATA drivers that come with Windows with drivers optimized for desktop and mobile PCs." If you use the RAID version it's required to notify you if a RAID 1 disk has failed
SunJavaUpdateSched...java update notifier, not needed, doesn't work that well anyway. Check for updates manually.
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware...should not be in start ups at all.
AlcoholAutomount...Related to Alcohol_Software makes it easy to create backups of DVDs* and CDs.

Then go to the Services Tab and remove check marks from the following:
Lavasoft Ad-Aware Service (aawservice)
HP Health Check Service
iPod Service
Viewpoint Manager Service Also with this one go to Add/Remove and Uninstall this program Viewpoint. Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval
Also check this website for other Services which may be able to be disabled in Vista.

Have you always used the Norton Anti-virus program? This can be a resource hog, you may consider trying another anti-virus program if this is due to expire soon, since it is a paid program. There are several excellent free ones which do not consume as many resources but do offer excellent anti-virus protection.

Thank you, I have disabled all of the programs as instructed. Are you referring to the Symantec Anti virus? If so, I am able to use it for free becasue the university has a contract with them for the free software. Is ZoneAlarm Pro a better choice to use, because we get free licenses to that too.

Zone Alarm is a firewall, not an anti-virus program.

Honestly doubt that Zone Alarm would use any less resources. When you say the laptop is hot, hotter than usual? Do you use it on a table or someplace like a pillow or something? Laptops are usually hotter I believe than desktops but if they run hotter than normal try sitting it on a table or someplace where it would be cooler. Also make sure there is no dust in the vents too.

Ok, can you recommend one that you use? My laptop sits on my desk. An I did use those steps to "try" and clean my computer. And also I did use the Malware software.
