I have a buddy running it on vmware. Pretty was his first impression, system hog was the next.If starshooter like it more power to him. I prefer 2k over xp myself. There is no version of windows I would go pay for just to have the latest. I will get the latest when I get a new computer, but im not buying a later version to run on an old machine.

I'm sorry, but this version of Windows is even more screwed up than ME. Except for all of the crashes, though I haven't used it yet, so I can't say for sure. But I work with a guy who sounded JUST like you when he first got it...ran it in a VM and now hates it.

You may work in computer repair, but you really sound like you are paid by MS somehow. Honestly, name me something in Vista that Apple doesn't have....or that you can't get in XP. IMO it is just a screwed up way of being forced to upgrade the computer.....

    gizmo has hit the nail...

computers have gotten to the point that you dont need to upgrade.
you only need so much speed to run word, surf the web, and do what 90% of the world does. Computers are beyond that so why upgrade? Time for software to make all but the latest hardware obsolete. that way you drive more hardware sales. More hardware sales means the latest software can be used driving the cycle.

Then again, if it wasn't for software constantly pushing hardware sales, we would be running 1 ghz computers with a gig or so of ram and a 4TB harddrive.

ROFL!! Yes. The main reason computers are where they are now is because of games. And I don't think that people, especially gamers, want all of the extra BS running and extra HW requirements just for an OS.

but that in turn drives hardware development...

reminds me of the drug commercial from the 80's.
    faster hardwares
    faster games
    more os,
    faster hardware
    faster games
    more os.
