So I finally had the b/s appear again. This is what it had to say

"An exception OE has occured at 0028.C000E8EE in VxD VMM(01) + 0000DBEE
This was called from 0000B23F in VxD VFAT(01) + 0000B23F.
It may be possible to continue normally."

It only happened once this time and after hitting the enter key 3 times allowed me to continue and did'nt occur again. As for the instructions at the bottom fo the screen it was the typical ctrl/alt/del message. So anyways it's a start as to what may be causing this problem.I will keep this post up to date on any more happenings. Thanks again.

The VFAT errors with Windows 98 and ME generally refers to jacked up system files or registry keys that would be very hard to pin-point andd more importantly would not necessarily prevent the inevitable outcome: complete operating system crash.

If you do not have a valid system restore point or a registry backup done prior to the errors occuring, I'd say it's time to backup and be prepared to re-install the OS. You do not have to do it right away but all I am suggesting is that you backup your critical files right away...

I have had this error twice now tonight and after hitting the enter key have been allowed to continue on with my normal activities. Each occurance has had the same values in the first part of the message and then different values in the second part.I found that I had some success with deleting the ZA log files after my original posting.I will try this again and see if the result is the same.If that is the end result, then I can continue to purge these files on a weekly basis and leave your talents to those who really need them.

    Thumbs up

If ZoneAlarm's log files were causing this, then it really is odd. I doubt that is the root cause but if you can work around the problem and things seem to be running fine afterwards then I would have to agree an application or process must be ticking the system off hence the not-so-critical system error but to this date I have had may be 2-3 of those while using ME during short testing periods and the problem never got better.

Either way, good luck and thanks for the follow-up.

Thanks again TL.I also remembered that it had been a while since I had updated my CC.After running the registry end of it and repairing what it found,I defragged. Will see what that does in the coming days as to solving this particular quirk.Chat with you all later. Keep up the good fight.

Did you mean using registry fix function of CCleaner?

If so, I'd advise you to not use the registry cleaner (Issues) function in CCleaner as it might cause more problems than it solves. A good registry cleaner for Windows 9x and ME is EasyCleanerbut remember, before modifying anything in registry or running a cleanup, always create a backup of registry.

I did create a backup before proceeding.I also made sure to backup the fixes CC did in case I need to reinstall them. Most of the registries it found anyways, were for Wild Tangent which I had deleted 2 years ago.How they remained is a mystery to me,but it cleaned them out.Since doing all this and running scan disc and defrag, everything seems to be running smoothly for now.So now it is the waiting game to see if it keeps happening. So there is my update in a nutshell. Will check back from time to time to see if there are any other problems that may relate to mine.Take care.

So another week has passed and after doing what I did last time I posted the B/S has not reappeared.I will take a guess that whatever it is that is causing this is no major concern. So until I upgrade from ME to a new OS,I will let your talents still go to those who truly need them.Unless of course I end up with some weird virus that takes over my brain and makes me post here for no apparent reasons.Laters peeps .

So until I upgrade from ME to a new OS
If you are considering doing this on this same computer please be absolutely certain that this particular computer can "take" an OS upgrade or you will be letting yourself in for multiple headaches and frustration.
