how do i rid myself of tactslay.a trojan?

I have run the programs given in the directions of the hijackthis analyzer section and nothing finds the tatslay.a trojan except hijackthis. It also flags cfmon as being from the coolwebsearch but the cool web search does not remove it. Can anyone help me purge the trojan?

The findings of the HJT Analyzer on this forum are not to be used. Please note this Sticky
What yours has found is incorrect and please ignore.
You have to look at the entire entry to be certain that what is showing is indeed something bad
the entry supposedly the tatslay.a trojan
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Scheduler] C:\WINDOWS\SMINST\Scheduler.exe
does not have the usual location for this trojan which for XP is C:\Windows\System32. Yours shows the location in C:\WINDOWS. The file extension is not correct either, usually it will show as usually svchost.exe
I believe your entry actually has something to do with the SoftThinks - The PCAngel backup and recovery software which is located in this folder C:\WINDOWS\SMINST\

The ctfmon.exe showing in your log is NOT CoolWebSearch but is is involved with the language/alternative input services in Office XP.

Do the steps given HERE, especially MBA-M and post back with the logs requested, including a new HJT log.

I am in the process of running ESET now. Which HiJackThis would you rather I use for the return post.

We would need a new scan run AFTER you have run all the other steps. We need logs from the ESET scanner, if it finds something. Also the log from MBA-M too.
Your version of HJT is the current version so that is what you run the scan with, but you don't run it through any type of analyzer, you just post the log here.

Also, you never stated any type of problem other than those incorrect items done by that analyzer. Why were you running HJT in the first place? What problems have you been having?

Here are the items asked for. What got my attention initially was the Data Execution Prevention Manager indicated the Generic Host Process for Win32 Services was creating a problem and should be shut down. About the same time Explorer started giving problems and indicating that it should be shut down. This occurs on startup.

Sometimes when shutting down juched cannot be stopped by the system and requires killing form the prompt.

    Thanks for the help.

Let me go through the HJT log and get back with you on that, you have a HUGE number of programs running at start up, many unnecessarily because they can be run manually. But I have to go through the log to be certain which ones those are, but for now one thing you need to do is update your java program. Go HERE and download the Offline Install and save it to the desk top.
Once that is downloaded then go to Add/Remove and Uninstall ALL old versions found there
    Java(TM) 6 Update 3
    Java(TM) 6 Update 5
    Java(TM) 6 Update 7
Once those are completely uninstalled then double click the java install icon on the desktop and install the newest version. Once the install is complete then go back to that link above and you will see, on the right side, Verify Now. Click that to go to the verification page to be certain your install was complete.

You have several security programs running at start up that really aren't required to do so. There really is such a thing as TOO much of a good thing.
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware...keep it on the computer, NOT at start up, but for regular scanning and removal. Always update before a scan as it updates very often.
Lavasoft Ad-Aware Service. This service is pointless really, does nothing but run unless you have the paid version. I wouldn't recommend spending the money.
CSIScanner..I don't know this program so I cannot advise.
Windows Defender....This is ok for scanning but some have had difficulties with it.
SpywareGuard (this is considered a "Work In Progress" by it's creator, javacoolsoftware. There have been compatibility issues with some security programs. I believe I would uninstall this frankly and stick with SpywareBlaster. That one is the one I would not run my computer without.)
Three entries from Trend Secure (those are fine)

according to bleepingcomputer csiscanner is a part of prevxcsi.exe and is part of the scanning system. The link is http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/star...ner-23193.html. Castlecops say the same thing. http://www.castlecops.com/o23list-4110.html. All of the checkers came as a result of all of the searching i have been doing. I usually only run trend and always try to keep spywareblaster updated. I'll reboot and try to get the startups down to a minimum again. I also downloaded and ran Registry Mechanic. It cleaned up about 200 bad entries in the registry. This is a cleaner i have found helpful in the past to keep performance up to speed but go away form it for a couple of years.

Thank you for your help. The other problems seem to have gone away. I don't know what was going on. Oh well, a couple of days cleaning isn't all bad. It kept me out of trouble.

Yes, I knew what the program was, I just have no experience with it. Can you tell me why you are using it?
