    Urgent Help Needed

As of friday I got a new(used) computer from a friend. Everythign was going awesome til last. I play with PSP 9 I noticed that the layers pallet seemed still visible on the desk top. every document i opened appeared "Stuck" in that 1 corner of the screen. I downloaded many brushes for PSP last night that all included zips. I was annoyed by this box. closed all my work, and restarted the computer. I noticed at first it shut down un-usually slow, but i figured that was from all the downloads i did. When the puter restarted and came up... Norton didnt come up. the only thing i saw in the startup icons was the clock and yahoo messenger turned off. i tried opening norton.. it wouldnt fully open. I went to run.. typed in msconfig. Im the services i hid all microsoft and there was only norton left in there. it said all the norton programs were stopped. I immidetly tried to go online to search out an online virus scan. I have Avant browser. It returned a message saying it had encountered an error and needs to close. I went to my outlook box just to see if i had an iternet connection.. It asked me to log every users name in. I did not thinking.. then shut down and rebooted in safe mode.
Once in safemode the bottom tool bar was not visible i had to go unlock it and play with it a long while to get it to move up, now everytime i minimize a window it minimizes above the toolbar. Norton still didnt work, and when i right clicked and asked it to scan an item it returned the message 1 or more files were corrupted in norton and i had to insert the disk and replace them.( Norton came installed i dont have a disk for it) I scanned puter with ad-adware SE, and Windows Care Advanced V2. they found a few date minor(spelling) and non-threat tracking cookies. ( thats it for the scans I had) i rebooted into reg mode, avant still wouldnt come up. BUT I was able to get IE online. I cant find any icons to do a virus scan online. seems they all have gone invisible. When sending a message in messenger to a friend i cant see anything they are saying and my font is white also. I tried downloading windows def but it refuses to install says i need a windows installer. i did get hijackthis downloaded and scanned. i have a report for you, however I cant tell what good and bad because ive had the computer for such a short time. OH 1 more thing to report. i downloaded avant over exsisting 1 still wouldnt open. I unistalled and re-installed yet avant has encountered an error and had to close.( YES< Avant is the default broswer).

A quick scan of your log really shows nothing except 5 instances of Internet Explorer running when you did the scan. There should be NO browsers open when the scan is done.
Your log DOES show Norton is there, that is not to say it isn't corrupted but it is there.
I don't really see how the Norton program could be corrupted by PSP9 unless you downloaded a trojan or virus which would damage it.
Which of course could be the case.
Give us more information about the computer itself. Hard drive size, how much RAM is installed?

I cant find any icons to do a virus scan online
I am not certain what you mean by the above statement. To do online scans you actually have to go to a specific website. They generally are not built in onto the computer. Unless you mean you cannot locate them in your favorites.

now everytime i minimize a window it minimizes above the toolbar.
By window do you mean an Internet Explorer window or the window of a picture or another program and do you mean toolbar or taskbar?

You say this computer is a used computer. Did it come with Windows XP originally installed or did the previous owner install it? Who installed PSP9?

Was the Norton program new and up to date or is it possible that it has expired? If you did not receive a disk with it did you receive the paper work which would come via the web when the Norton was updated?
If you have none of this you might be better off to uninstall Norton entirely and go with a good free anti-virus program like AVG. But don't do that yet.
When you uninstalled the Avant browser did you actually uninstall via Add/Remove or just delete it?
For now I would also turn off all that Yahoo stuff until you get this problem solved. None of that is necessary and can interfere with what we may need to do.
    Go to this link
Follow all of the steps given there, including the online scans given. You will have to go to those websites to do the online scans, they are not available by clicking an icon.
Once you have completed all those steps then come back here and let us know what you have found.
