Browser Totally Hijacked- HJT Log Enclosed. Please Help!

Whatever this is on my computer will not let me go to almost any sites or run any programs that can actually help me, so I hope I can get help here. Also, my computer freezes on start-up maybe half the time I try and restart it.

I should also add that I cannot produce any other logs from any of the requested programs because my computer won't open the programs.

Any help would be much appreciated! thanks again.

I'd appreciate if someone could at least give me a starting place as I have no idea what to do and am in dire need of assistance. Even when I bypass explorer (which is indeed infected), the virus is still limiting what I can do. Safe Mode is useless as the results I get are nearly identical.

I cannot get Malwarebytes to open after it is installed. I've installed, uninstalled and reinstalled twice and the same thing happens.

HJT is the only program I can open aside from AVG which is completely useless.

I assume I'll need to repair windows are I get this thing off, but I really don't know where to begin.

Any help would be much appreciated as I can only access certain websites that can help, this being the only one I've found so far.

What version of HJT are you using as you left off the top of the scan info where that is given?
Also there are no "R" entries showing or O2 entries. We need to see the complete log. EVERYTHING. We cannot help fully unless we do.
Try shutting down, disconnecting your internet cable, boot to safe mode and then try the MBA-M running.
Also try running the AVG 7 (which will soon be out of date by the way) in safe mode.

Your HiJackThis log should contain listings like these:
    This top portion
HiJackThis log should look like this:
Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2
Scan saved at 8:04:19 PM, on 10/27/2008
Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
    MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16705)
    Boot mode: Normal

Running processes: You DO show Running processes but not the label
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe
    etc.
    Then listing similar to these;
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www..com/

    Then these:
    O2 - BHO: Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Archivos de programa\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll
    O2 - BHO: Spybot-S&D IE Protection - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\ARCHIV~1\SPYBOT~1\SDHelper.dll
    Then possibly some numbered O3

Then on through with the info containing what you have all ready posted. Your log is incomplete so it is hard to make a judgement.

Thanks for the response. Here's the full HJT log, and I've attached the Malwarebytes log as I was able to get that to run on the other partitioned drive (I've got this computer set-up dual boot). I'll try the other recommended scans, but I can't access the internet on that other drive, so I don't think it will work (unless maybe I download a shell for the C drive)

    thanks again!!

I hate to ask you to see if you can do this, but can you try to update Malwarebytes' and run it again. It is out of date quite a bit. Your data base version is 1306 and the current one is 1419.

    I also find it unusual that there are no listings like this;
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www..com/

    O2 - BHO: Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Archivos de programa\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll
    O2 - BHO: Spybot-S&D IE Protection - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\ARCHIV~1\SPYBOT~1\SDHelper.dll
in the logs. Try renaming HiJackThis.exe to Analyze.exe and run another scan and see if we can see more.

Have you tried Safe Mode with Networking to see if you can access the net that way with the infected drive?

I'm in safe mode now, but it acts much the same as when I am in normal mode. I will try to see if I get a different log when I use HJT on the D drive. I cannot get online from the D drive because it lacks the drivers as I use it for recording and try to keep it as clean as possible.

Is there anyway I can download the Malwarebytes update and install it manually?

    thanks!

Edit: I think I may have mistakenly deleted the HJT info you're looking for. I restored the bulk of what I deleted save for the 13 different sites that all appear to be viruses marked: "015 - Trusted Zone:*" and the one pointing to viewpoint which I have (hopefully) deleted off of my computer.

Here's the new HJT log, but no luck so far on the Malwarebytes front...

Update: It seems by restoring some of those HJT deletions I was able to use Malwarebytes. However, I cannot download the update through the program because the virus won't let me go to the website that hosts it.

I even tried stopping explorer.exe and using the taskmanager to open the browser, but it's still no go in safe or normal modes.

Is there anyway I can somehow access the websites the virus is not letting me? I thought by canceling explorer.exe it would work but apparently it doesn't.

This log is still incomplete without those Trusted Zones. The key thing with using HJT is to NOT make any fixes with it before posting it on a help site. This way we know what is there. Now I have no idea what it is you have removed. So I cannot say for sure what it is that is on the computer. Many items in an HJT log may "appear" to be infected files when they are not. There are many infections which use names similar or exactly the same as real and legitimate files. There are ways to find out if these are legitimate or not, but without the complete logs it cannot be done.
Deleting the entire list of O15 Trusted sites before posting the log because they "all appear to be viruses" is an incorrect assumption. Something in the trusted zone is NOT a virus. The listings in O15 are NOT files but Trusted Internet Zones. Many forms of malware will place a listing of a web site into the trusted zone so that more malware can be downloaded from that site. But it would be nice if I knew exactly what those were. I have to also stress that ALL listings in the Trusted Zone are NOT malware downloading sites. Some of those listed in the Trusted Zone are there because they have to be placed there in order to visit the site, probably because of your security settings. I have one listing in my trusted zone which is for NickGames so my grandson can play the online games from the Nickolodeon website.
    Two of the entries which now show on your log since the rename of HJT, are these;
    O2 - BHO: {1a099612-cf82-a95b-f7e4-546ef9b2b942} - {249b2b9f-e645-4e7f-b59a-28fc216990a1} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mhfwdm.dll
    O20 - AppInit_DLLs: mhfwdm.dll
These point to a possible WinAntiSpyware or WinAntiVirus infection
    ?
MBA-M should remove this. You say that you cannot download updates for MBA-M from the website which hosts it. There is another download site listed on the Update page, click the arrow next to the box showing Malwarebytes'.org. Then choose that site and see if you can download from there.

    You also said in your last post;
I was able to use Malwarebytes.
    Where is that second log?

I made adjustments myself because the virus would not let me post my log at any of the help forums I tried. I stumbled on yours later that night. Here are the "trusted zones" I was referring to. Rather than restore them all
(and possibly make my browser completely unusable like it once was), you can tell me if I should restore any of them. It should also go without saying that I never have been to or "trust" any of these sites:

All begin "015 - Trusted Zone:*"

    the websites mentioned are: .trustedantivirus.com, .antispyexpert.com, .imagesrvr.com, .storageguardsoft.com, .spyguardpro.com, .virusremover2008.com, .gotmyhit.com, .antimalwareguard.com, .onerateld.com, .amaena.com, .avsystemcare.com, .safetydownload.com, .virusschlact.com

The last one is this: "023- Service: Viewpoint Manager Service- Unknown owner- C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe (file missing)"

As for Malwarebytes, I didn't repost a log because I can't even go to the website let alone download the update. My browser acts as if I typed in the wrong address as it does when I try to go to any website that will help me. If you would care to post the secondary link you referred to on here, I'd appreciate it. I will run it once again and see if any of the results are different in the meantime.

I'd also like to let you know that I may not be able to reply for a while as I'm going to be away from my computer most of the day.

EDIT: I found the website you were referring to, but it doesn't let me go there either. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for the list of Trusted Zones. We need ALL information and as the instructions for HiJackThis says on most sites recommending it's use
It is recommended that no fixes be done with HJT until the log is seen by the helper at the site where you are posting. The helper must see all entries to be certain on what to remove. What may look incorrect or suspicious may be a legitimate file and removal or fixing may damage the computer.
Why don't you see if you can run this tool? SDFix
Here are two other links to try if you cannot get it with the first one
    HERE or HERE
Save it to the Desktop. Don't run it yet. It must be run in SAFE MODE.

    1. Now, double-click on the SDFix icon that should now be residing on your desktop. If a Open File - Security Warning box opens, click on the Run button.
    2. A window will now open showing SDFix being extracted into the C:\SDFix folder. Once the installation program has finished extracting SDFix, it will open a Notepad with further instructions.

Next, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode by doing the following:

    1. Restart your computer
    2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
    3. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
    4. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Click on the Start button, click on the Run menu option, and type the following into the Open: field:

    C:\SDFix\RunThis.bat

Then press the OK button. You will then be shown a Disclaimer. Press the "Y" key to continue.
SDFix will now start scanning your computer for known infections.
This process can take a while, so you may want to do something else and periodically check back on the status of SDFix. As the scanning process continues you will continue to see new messages on the screen.
When the scanning process has finished you will see a new screen stating that you need to restart your computer in order to continue.
At this point you should press any key on your computer's keyboard in order to restart the computer.
After your computer reboots SDFix will automatically start and perform a last check.
You will now be presented with a screen stating that SDFix has finished.
At this point you should press any key on your computer's keyboard in order to continue to your desktop.
When you are back at your Windows desktop, the SDFix log will automatically be opened in notepad.
Save that log and post back here with it.
