Both CD's (internal and USB connected) stopped working on my notebook (Compaq 2178 - running XP). They both show up as non-working on the Device Manager, with the message "A driver[service] for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. [Code 32]"
I try to keep this machine running lean, so it's possible that I disconnected something I should not have. I would just reformat and reinstall Windows, but that requires the use of a CD drive. Is there a service I should specifically enable? Or something else? Thanks.
