I contacted a company a while back about custom solid state drives and they sent me a quote of like 12k dollars or something, kind crazy. Their primary market was for things like military applications for paratroopers and tanks n stuff where they experience hi-G impacts on the go or when something detonates close by; to prevent hard drive head crashes. They do make industrial/private sector products etc... I'd love to have a high sustained tranfer rate solid state drive, it would make things so much faster but the current products are too spendy.

i'd REALLY like to know how you figure that USB is slower then an HDD....

remember although a HDD will sustain 50-60 MB/s and a flash can only do 20/25 it's for the acsess time...

you might be thinking HA that's only 4MS!

but think about it this way..

if i have 10,000 I/O's on my HDD no matter what it's doing with 10000 I/O's most of that minute will be used for SEEK

while a flash based has NO acsess so when you push that many I/O's the flash based will be faster overall

and you should know the O/S isn't the only thing that uses the page file...
    my programs won't function W/O a pag'in file....

while it will be trivial when doing office work and E-mail

i was able to multi task WITHOUT a hint of lag while render'in

VERY impressive if you ask me....

i suppose it depends of what your particular aplication is.

you should play with it hands on before you make a semi etailed post =-P

if it's something like my freind said "gfdfg dhh fy wery" and he's a good tech then that's cool but yeah... you don't have hands no with it =-P

i agree with you HT comment tho it was deffently alot of hype.....

it's no that they have better transfers but the lack acsess time so depending on the aplications it may be worse or it could be better.....

large files it's worse (as of last time i checked) and for tons of small files it's better to have flash....
