I'm having trouble turning on this particular wireless on my Gateway Laptop. The last message it sends me is an error dialog box that reads: The Intel Pro Wireless Network Connection is still disabled. Use your hardware switch to enable it. I'm not sure where this hardware switch is on my laptop. Help!

Should be something like Fn + F2 to toggle wireless on/off. That seems to be pretty common. Some laptops aren't very standard though, so not knowing what model you have I can't really narrow it down anymore.
