    Proxy Server Problem!

    My internet explorer doesn't work due to some problem with a proxy server. I don't have a proxy server but on the internet options in the control panel, the box for the "check for proxy server etc...." in the LAN section under the connectivity tab is checked. When I uncheck this and click "OK," these two appear in my HJT log:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyServer = 127.0.0.1:8080
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyOverride = local
    Once I check these two entries and click "fix," the "check for proxy server etc..." box in the control panel under the connectivity tab becomes automatically checked. This is really frustrating as IE doesn't work but my AOL browser does work.

    If you are using LAN then make sure the Dial up options in Internet Options are set to Never Dial a Connection

    Also the AOLDialer program is showing in your auto-start programs it it not necessary to run at Start up. There are some cases where this is not compatible with XP and you need to contact AOL for a fix.

    I would advise you then to go to this link READ ME Before Posting A Request For Assistance!
    follow all the steps given there. Once you have completed all steps given then run a NEW HJT scan and post the log here.
    You might also check the following setting in Internet Explorer Internet Options;
    In IE go to - Internet Options | Connections [tab] and choose your connection.
    Make sure the box called "bypass proxy server for local addresses" is checked. Example: click the LAN Settings button, select: Proxy Server
    "Bypass proxy server for local addresses", click the Advanced button.
    Add: 127.0.0.1 click Ok, Ok.
    These type (proxy) problems may also occur if you changed ISPs and the previous settings were not removed properly. Or if you have had a previous "Spyware\Adware" problem, it may be possible that the infection may have altered your system settings. This is why I am recommending you follow the steps in the link I just gave you.

    I've already done everything in the sticky. Around two years ago, I had the easysearch.biz browser hijacker. I managed to get rid of it. I've done some research on this and the two entries in my HJT log file have come because of this. For some reason, I cannot get rid of them! Thanks for the continuous help. I really want to get rid of this problem, I've had it since I got rid of that nasty browser hijacker.

    Also, something that may help is that whenever Internet Explorer works, MSN Messenger works and I can get updates on definitions for certain spyware scanners. I know this because I somehow managed to log on with a different connection ages ago and it worked. I've forgotten how I did this though!

    When you say you have all ready done everything in the sticky and then say...Around two years ago..do you mean that was when you completed the steps in the sticky or you just did them in the past few days?
    If you have had these problems since you say you got rid of a hijacker then chances are it is not all gone.

    I've had the problem for roughly two years and I followed that sticky around 5days ago. I scan my computer every week with Ewido, Ad-Aware SE and Microsoft Antispyware. I also scan my computer monthly using Panda Activescan and Trend Macro.

    The HJT log shows that I don't have too many problems, it's just this annoying thing where Internet Explorer doesn't work. You are right, I doubt the Easysearch.biz has completely gone but I haven't had any obvious problems with my computer apart from IE not working when I log on with AOL Broadband.

    I've been researching on google, and the two lines are associated with the easysearch.biz hijacker.

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyServer = 127.0.0.1:8080
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyOverride = local

    The source for these entries can be from any number of different hijackers not just easysearch.biz hijacker. I am not saying yours are not from this previous infection I just want it clear to others reading this that there are other hijackers out there that cause the same entries.

    Try this;
    Enable Viewing of Hidden Files and Folders

    Disconnect from the internet. Close ALL Browsers, Messengers, etc.

    Run HiJackThis again. Place checkmarks next to these two entries;
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyServer = 127.0.0.1:8080
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyOverride = local
    When you have placed the checkmarks click the FIX button.
    Exit HJT.

    Next Open Internet Explorer.
    Reset your internet connection at IE>tools>internet options>connections tab, uncheck the use proxy box

    Next go to My Computer. Open "C" Drive.
    Go to this folder;
    C:\WINDOWS\runwin32.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\wininet32.exe

    Look for and delete the FILE in RED. Not the wholefolder.

    Reboot the computer and see if this helped.
