    removing unwanted(double) dlls-Help!

Hi. I noticed that my WINDOWS folder contains alot of double dlls(60-70%), and was wondering if there's a SAFE way to remove these. I have the feeling that some serve no purpose(old application left-overs). Folders in question are the SYSTEM 32 folder and other various folders inside WINDOWS. I am running XP-PRO with SP/2. I heard of a tool called ClnSys-any good? Any help would be well taken. Thanks!!!

I have not heard of this program but what I could find, which was not easy, it only works on Windows 95 and 98 and will do absolutely nothing for operating systems newer than that. Plus the webpage given for the creator of this program is no longer available.

I have looked for others and have not found any which can be used or will even work on machines running XP.

Personally, I think I would stay away from this unless you know absolutely, without question that a particular DLL file is no longer needed. Remove the wrong one and you can render an application useless.

Are you running out of space on the drive? If so there are many other safer ways to clean things up.

Thanks for the reply. I have enough space, it just seems strange to me that approx. 70% of my dlls are doubled.?.?.? Do you maybe know of a program that deletes OLD, UNEEDED, dlls? I am a great software tester-if its new, i need to try it out. What I mean to say is that i install and uninstall quite often and I'm sure some of these dlls are left-over trash. Any ideas how I might find which ones i know longer need? Thanks.

Honestly, everything I have found said, for safety, you need to look at each individual .dll file to see what it is connected to and if it is needed. I also have found none that are okayed to work with XP. Maybe somebody else will know of one.
