Well, take this with a pinch of salt, but if you get my
meaning :
It communicates with the owners, right out of the box. No
asking me for permission first. Also anything I type into the search
box is sent out, BEFORE I press the "send button". It also checks all
the sites I visit are adequate, as if I was some evil pedophile.
Cookies are kept by default. Two add-ons I use phone home sending
data. And they are both for security !!!! I have automatic updates
unchecked, but it phones to the update site and sends a load of
encrypted stuff. In some operating systems, the user agent flag is set
to identify me (I always change it to googlebot just to piss them off)
Suse linux was very elegant. A box popped up:
"You have to send your personal data to Novell, or else you
will get no updates or help and we will format your hard drive and
maybe even kill you". Or something like that.
Honest of them.
Pity Suse didn't work.

As to an operating system, windows XP and Vista ARE spyware.
So that would leave windows 9x, linux (excluding ubuntu and other
"popular distros"), something sexy like solaris, BSD, OS2 warp ....
you name it

Something I can surf the web and not spy on me.... like in the
old days, I always knew what trumpet winsock / Netscape was up to
