Winamp player upgrade triggering AVG Trojan warning

Not sure if anyone else is coming across this, but tonight I tried to
install the newest Winamp media player (ver 5541), downloaded directly from
their site and AVG kept saying it has a trojan.
It claimed to clean it, then Winamp would not load

I see Winamp now under the control of AOL, so lord knows what bloatware they
included, or what they did to what was a simple yet functional media player
    application.

Or is AVG showing a false positive ?

Just found this, but so far nothing concrete mentioned whether it is a
    winamp or AVG problem.

June 1, 1999 - AOL purchases Nullsoft. You mean you just got the news?

I must have been out of town that day, and never got the memo

They might have purchased it but I only noticed AOL logos all over their
website when I got this latest upgrade.
And don't remember so many checked options to shut off bloatware with
    previous releases.

I just remember what AOL did for web browsers, and wouldn't be to surprised
to see them now totally screwing up Winamp as well.
Turned out the "trojan" was reportedly a false positive that was fixed,
probably within minutes of the time I tried installing.
But does anyone who knows AOL blame me for expecting the worst ?

Decided to just keep the version I had already, and just added in a few
    plugins.

Seems the days are vanishing where newer is better.
And sites like "oldversion.com" seem to come in handy

AOL has destroyed more good companies that any other Internet
enterprise. These include Nullsoft, NETSCAPE and CompuServe among
others. Now AOL its self is but a shadow of its former self. Steve Case
should have stayed in the pizza business.
