    Huh? What system below? VAP? a search for this acronym gives me the following;

    VAP cholesterol test
    Ventilator-associated pneumonia
    Vap family decendants
    Vap Creative Programs
    Vintage Airstream Podcast
    Voluntary Action Program

By the way, we aren't all "doods" here, dude

I am sorry but did you say you put a brand new Operating System such as (Asta La) Vista to sleep for 9+ hours when various programs running on an OVERCLOCKED CPU with different brands DDR RAM?

yeah i have differant DIMMS but that shouldn't matter i have the ram's BUS locked

and the 6300 and 6400 are great over clockers

i've had it run burn in for 24 hours before i consider it stable...

the problem was that it took 10 minutes to come out of vista's new hybrid hibernation/sleep

10 minutes of black screen was enough to make me think it crashed...

    Exclamation

Power related issues are generally 'compatibility' (between hardware and OS) related.
That said, having any abnormalities (overclocking or having unneeded components, peripherals connected) while troubleshooting any type of PC problem is not desirable to say the least.

So, for that reason, until you find the actual culprit, whether OC'ing has any negative impact or not, it would be smart to return those settings back to normal first...

yeah it wasn't a result of OC's but rather VISTA ultimate really SHOULD have a SS drive for it's swap....

it was the HDD"s comm'in back to life =-P

also i heard that AI nap (an ASUS feture) can cause trouble with vista in sleep mode....

i just keep it on screen saver 24/7 now lol

RIBBONS is COOL lookin across my screens... you'll see when you get vista hehe

I hate to say it but imo ASUS Raid system sucks. 3 ASUS high end mobos I owned (Nforce, Nforce2 and NForce2 ultra chipset) had issues with RAID setup, both for P-ATA and S-ATA. Especially for S-ATA and NForce2 chipset, regardless of the drives size, I had to ditch the SATA drivers that came with the mobo or the updated ones from Asus' web site and instead hunt down the newer and more compatible chipset drivers from the manufacturer of the RAID chipset (SiliconImage) to get things back to normal....

I didn't have any RAID issues with my Gigabyte mobo using the NForce3 chipset or even the cheapo ECS mobo. Drivers are very important, it makes a huge difference on how the component they were written for run as well as the OS itself!

I never jump on the idiot-wagon that carries people to purchase the newest MS products just as soon as the product hits the shelves.
MS is in the habit of pushing Windows out to public -at least- a servicepack too soon!

    Sorry loco
    it's not a raid setup

the P5B-E only has 1 PATA port (for my BURNERS)

i only use the 680 card to host my older HDD's

although i DO plan on making a raid system sometime in jan.

yeah noramlly i would have waited but i work at a computer store so i have to be familiar with the newest TECH and software....

Oh, when you said 'HDDs' I though you had a RAID setup, hmm I do not know why I made that assumption but the point I was making still stands, you can't have any kind of drive host cards and wonder why the OS is not coming out of the sleep mode properly. Meaning, minimize your HW configuration to a normal PC setup to see if the sleep issue disappears. I believe this issue has to do with the mobo (BIOS). When the same issue was occuring with XP (and for the most part people installing XP on older systems/mobos), a BIOS update most often resolved the issue. The same might be true with Vista but can't say for sure...have you checked to see if the system you installed Vista on qualified for Vista?

Also, don't jump the guns and label Vista as 'new technology', some made the same statement for Windows Me back in the day...lol
