SpywareBlaster item unprotects itself.

The other day I brought up SpywareBlaster to check for updates, and
found the status screen said that one item was unprotected in the
"restricted sites" section. I paged through the list and found the
unprotected item was number 1630, "CoolWebSearch 5starvideos.com."

I set protection on for that item, checked for updates, and made sure
the status screen said that all items were protected.

Then I went to my HOSTS file and added 5starvideos.com and
www.5starvideos.com. Yesterday when I looked at SpywareBlaster, all
was well. Today the same item is again unprotected.

AdAware, NOD32 antivirus, and SpyBot SD have all shown nothing. There
is nothing I don't recognize running in the XP Task Manager list.

Any ideas?

Three ideas:
1)Uninstall and reinstall SpyWareBlaster
2)DL, install, update and run both of these free programs seperately.
SuperAntiSpyware and MalWareBytes' Anti-Maleware.
3)Unistall the two above programs if you don't want them after you used
them.

FWIW, I found the same unchecked item yesterday.....found a different
one a week or so ago. Have no clue how they got unchecked.

I run SuperAntiSpyware and Spybot weekly.....neither of these reacted to
the unchecked malware name. Nor did they find anything to write home
about other than the usual cookies that I know well and often remove
manually.

So I don't think running the two programs you mention will do much good.
I suppose I will go to SpywareBlaster and ask them.

OOPS!! Motzarella wasn't sending (I thought) and switched to aioe.org,
but even tho the other 2 are not in my sent folder, they obviously got
posted.

And I still say that the unchecked malware is nothing to worry about
(VBG)

Thanks Dustin.......I got into a bit of a fugue/funk/tropical
depression?.....grin, for way too long. All is relatively OK here.
Keeping a close eye on R.

I would suggest if you plan to do this, that you first unprotect all
items before uninstalling SpywareBlaster. You can re-protect the items
after reloading and updating.

GOOD catch! I am surprised that the uninstaller doesn't do that
automatically.
Here it is from javacoolsoftware, themselves:

"For a clean uninstall of the SpywareBlaster program:

To shut down SpywareBlaster:


a.. Open SpywareBlaster and select "Disable All Protection"


b.. Close SpywareBlaster


c.. Close the AutoUpdate program, if open. To check, use CTRL-ATL-DELETE:


a.. Hold down the CTRL and ALT keys and at the same time hit the DELETE
key once to open the Windows Task Manager

b.. Click on the "Processes" tab in the Windows Task Manager (you can
sort the list alphabetically by clicking on the "Image Name" header)

c.. Look for a program called sbautoupdate.exe

d.. If you find sbautoupdate.exe, click on it and then on "End Process"

e.. If you also see a program called spywareblaster.exe, use "End
Process" on it too


To uninstall SpywareBlaster (once it is shut down):


a.. Open the Control Panel (click on START in the lower left corner of
your screen, then on CONTROL PANEL)


b.. Open ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS


c.. Search for the SpywareBlaster entry and select REMOVE - this should
uninstall it


d.. Reboot.

If you can close down SpywareBlaster but the uninstaller is unable to do its
job (perhaps due to previous incomplete uninstalls), you may need to
download and install SpywareBlaster over-the-top of your old installation.
This will give you a good copy of the uninstaller, and you should then be
able to follow the steps above and uninstall completely."
