    Comodo Free Firewall (Freeware)

As Internet access becomes vital to all business organizations, network security and privacy affects everyone. Comodo, a leading global provider of trust and assurance services for the Internet, provides the highest level of protection for networks and home users alike.

Comodo Firewall is one of the smartest firewalls you can ever see. While providing answers to firewall questions, users usually do not understand the complex questions which involve complicated connection details like IP addresses, Ports, Application paths etc.

Good idea! I didn't test it as I have a hardware firewall but the documentation for it looked clean. Thanks!

    Thumbs up

Ok, I tested this firewall on my gaming rig just to see the actual program interference since I do quite a bit online gaming.

Needless to say the program has a very neat and user-friendly interface but more importantly functions much like ZoneAlarm so it is quite capable.

On the downside, despite telling it to allow my games to connect to internet, it caused quite a bit of delay and sometimes odd disconnections when trying to play my online game (RavenShield3).

One of the main problems is perhaps the game creates a ~.tmp file in the current user's TEMP folder which is what actually initiates the internet connection for the game so it could connect to the servers, etc. Since this .tmp file name (number) actually changes each single time it created a dilemma. Perhaps there is a way to get around this issue somewhere in the program's settings but for most users this would be a pain to deal with.

Needless to say I rely on my router's firewall for protection and it doesn't have any derogatory effect on the online games so I uninstalled it and it was all good.

Stopping the program (firewall) returned the connection back to normal unlike ZoneAlarm where it could misbehave and block internet access completely.

Comodo seems like an effective yet user-friendly enough for anyone to use with little or no configuration after the installation.

I would recommend it to everyone who use their PC for casual web browsing, IM'ing and e-mailing.
