    Help please HJT log

I've been having problems with IE popping up and opening up window after window. I tried various cleaners suggested on this site (and also tried to just delete it which didn't work), so if someone could help me it would be great, also I have something else in my log that makes me a bit worried as I do not know what it is. So, any help would be great!
    Thanks,

    Hi Bbunny,
I know you said you ran all the scans, did you do the ones noted in SAFE MODE?
That is the key really with many of these. I would like you to go back to this link
and follow PhilliePhan's instructions exactly. Running the online scans, cleaning whatever is found.
Reboot to SAFE MODE and then run your Norton program and all others in Safe Mode, following his instructions and allowing each program to clean whatever is found.
Save the Spysweeper log and reboot into normal mode.
Then run a new HJT scan, save the log and post it back here along with the Spysweeper log.

    Hey thanks for looking

Thanks for looking into this for me. I did neglect to run everything in safe mode, so I went back ran CCleaner, Spybot, adaware and spysweeper..
I started to run Nortons but then my processor shot up to 100% (in safe mode)
It basically said a system idle process was hogging everything up.
CCleaner did take some stuff off, but I didn't save the log and spybot, adaware and spysweeper didn't find anything. I will try again to run norton and all of the adaware add ons again in the morning. Here is my currnt HJT log

    I'm pretty concerned about :
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: WgaLogon - C:\WINDOWS\
    Although, it looks half gone? Also I thought this: R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TY...ario&pf=laptop
Was causing the IE problems, although I am not sure.
I will update you again later on when I can fully run Nortons in safe mode and the adaware add ons without everything going super buggy and hardly running.

    Thanks.

It looks to me like you might have two Norton programs running on the computer.
What Norton product do you have on the computer? Did you have an install problem and have to run it twice? The reason I ask, there are a huge number of Norton processes running with some of them named Norton 2.
The O20 item you note is fine. The R1 directs you to an AOL search function.
You have an extraordinary amount of items running at start up and running in the background all the time. The Norton really should have run in SAFE MODE as long as something else was not running with it. Let me do some checking.

    Hi again

Ok, I tried running Norton in safe mode again at about 4 in the morning I started and when I woke up at 10:30am it was still running. I went to work and came home and my computer had shut itself off so I don't know what happened, I thought maybe it had gone to sleep but it had turned itself off. Here is my current log. Oh for Norton I have Norton System works and Norton internet security. Here is my current HJT log, I don't know if anything has changed at all.

The pop ups happen so randomly, that I don't know if it's fixed or not, but last night when I tried to go to live journal <--don't laugh netscape would shut down everytime I logged in. I can go to other sites ok, but live journal was making everything shut down.

Oh for Norton I have Norton System works and Norton internet security.
    Here is a HUGE part of your problem...Way, Way TOO MUCH Norton;
    Norton internet security
Includes Norton AntiVirus, Norton Personal Firewall, Norton Privacy Control, Norton AntiSpam, and Norton Parental Control
    Norton System works
    Includes Norton AntiVirus
Protects against viruses, spyware, and other threats

You are actually running TWO Norton Anti-Virus Programs at the same time on the same computer. Two anti-virus programs of any kind on the same computer are absolute NO-NO's but two different Norton programs, (which are resource hogs alone)...I am amazed the computer can even boot up let alone run programs. No wonder the Norton wouldn't run right, the computer didn't know which one to run.

    Reboot to SAFE MODE;

Go in and UNINSTALL ALL the Norton Programs via Add/Remove. Yes, ALL.

UNINSTALL Everything named Symantec via Add/Remove. Yes, EVERYTHING.

Then go to Start, Search, Files and Folders and do a file search for All Files and Folders named NORTON. Delete ALL.
Next go to Start, Search Files and Folders and search for all Files and Folders named Symantec. Delete ALL.

Reboot the computer to normal mode. Now it is up to you, pick ONE and only ONE Norton program to install, that is all NO MORE.
What these two programs are doing is fighting against each other and therefore your protection is pretty much nil.
You have way too many security programs running...both Nortons, Spysweeper, Windows Defender, SpyBot SD Helper...way too many.
The other thing I don't know is this...is your built in Windows XP firewall turned off? It should be since the Norton Internet Security includes a firewall.

In addition to all those extra security programs you are running an extraordinary of unnecessary programs that start automatically when the computer boots. But first remove all that extra Norton stuff and then reinstall the one program you choose. My recommendation...go with the smaller program, but that is your choice.
Personally I use Norton Anti-Virus, Windows Firewall and SpywareBlaster(which is FREE and does not run in the background but provides a huge amount of protection) and MailWasher FREE to keep the spam away. I use both AdAwareSE and SpyBot but ONLY for scanning, I run none of their background program. I have maybe one or two items found in their scans a week...that is all. I get virtually no spam but if I do it is gone before it gets on the computer using MailWasher.
You don't need $150 worth of security programs to protect your computer.
