    Repairing XP registry.

My computer will not load any windows components from the official windows disc (windows xp with service pack 1). It tells me that there is a problem with my registry and that some programmes are missing. Does anyone know of a programme that will find out what is missing from my registry and repair it?

Hi what Windows components are you trying to load?
Most importantly Why are you still using Service Pack 1?
Your system is not protected if you are using SP1..update your system asap.

I would like also to know the reason you are loading these components? Are you trying to do a repair of some sort? If you all ready have XP SP2 or SP3 loaded then the reason it won't load is because the SP1 components are older than what you have on the system. Is the disk you are trying to use the one that actually came with the computer?

Sorry I wasn't clearer in my original question. My version of windows XP is fully up to date including service pack 3. Some time ago I had registry problems which resulted in losing windows games (minesweeper hearts solitaire pinball etc), plus one or two other items. An ongoing registry fault means that my computer will not install any windows components from disc. I do not want to format my hard drive and do a re-install as the installation disc that I have only has basic windows xp and service pack 1. So, does anyone know of a programme that will check my registry, find out whats missing and repair it as necessary so that I can install windows components again. Hopefully this will be a small programme as I am restricted to dial-up internet.
